About The Position

As a Sr. Liability Claims Adjuster, you will investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve complex bodily injury and liability claims while delivering exceptional service to insureds and claimants. This role requires strong analytical, negotiation, and litigation management skills to effectively assess exposure, manage claim costs, and achieve fair and timely claim resolutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and claims experience.
  • 5+ years of liability claims handling experience, including bodily injury claims.
  • Strong knowledge of liability investigations, coverage analysis, claim evaluation, and settlement negotiations.
  • Experience managing litigated claims and working with defense counsel.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required state insurance adjuster licenses.
  • Ability to travel periodically, sometimes on short notice, for claim investigations, mediations, or trials.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial transportation or trucking claims experience.
  • 10+ years of liability claims handling experience.
  • Experience handling complex or high-exposure bodily injury claims.
  • Knowledge of negligence laws, medical terminology, and litigation practices (to include first notice lawsuits, in-person mediations, and in-person trial attendance).
  • Industry designations such as AIC, CPCU, SCLA, or other insurance-related certifications.
  • Multi-state claims handling experience.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate bodily injury and property damage claims and determine coverage, liability, and exposure.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate claim reserves throughout the life of the claim.
  • Gather, analyze, and document claim facts, evidence, medical information, and damages.
  • Develop and execute claim resolution strategies, including settlement negotiations.
  • Manage claim activity and maintain timely file documentation and diary management.
  • Coordinate and supervise independent adjusters and other claim service providers.
  • Work closely with insureds, claimants, attorneys, and internal business partners throughout the claims process.
  • Assign and manage defense counsel on litigated files and participate in mediations, settlement conferences, and trials as needed.
  • Identify subrogation opportunities and coordinate information related to physical damage claims.
  • Report risk trends and exposures to Safety and Underwriting.
  • Maintain required state adjuster licenses and stay current on applicable negligence laws, medical terminology, and industry developments.
