About The Position

Provide engineering and technical oversight in the various Fossil environments such as: Plants, Plant support, and Fleet Engineering. This position can be filled as an Sr Lead or Sr Staff Engineer/ Sr Lead or Sr Staff Technical Specialist depending on qualifications and experience.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering, Electrical preferred or or minimum of 8 years applicable experience
  • Sr. Lead Engineer - 8 years of applicable and progressive experience.
  • Sr. Staff Engineer - 10 years of applicable and progressive experience.
  • Sr. Lead Staff Technical Specialist - 8 years of applicable and progressive experience.
  • Sr. Staff Technical Specialist - 10 years of applicable and progressive experience.
  • Technical understanding of Legacy, CCGT and Coal Fleet.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve conflicts in stakeholder priorities, as well as technical questions.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership and organizational skills.
  • Proactive, self-confident, customer focused, self starter.
  • Capable of functioning in a highly complex and fluid matrix environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an “expert” level of consultation and complex problem solving associated with instrument and controls equipment to Fossil Plant Operations in areas such as boiler controls, turbine controls, data acquisition systems, combined cycle plant controls, and instrumentation equipment.
  • Provide quality technical support to analyze equipment or logic failure, assist in tuning, and provide system assessments as required.
  • Provide quality technical support to the analysis of failure mechanism to support quality and timing of the RCA process.
  • Develop the data and information necessary to design, implement, and manage “fleet strategies” on power plant controls processes and procedures to suggest the best configuration and technology to replace or address operational issues for 1) Digital Plant Controls systems including Boiler Controls, Burner Management Systems, balance of plant equipment controls, and data acquisition systems, 2) Turbine Control Systems, 3) Combined Cycle Plant control systems.
  • Provide an “expert” interface with equipment OEM’s, internal or external engineering personnel for review of system configuration, consultation, problem solving and discussion of best maintenance practices on instrument, and controls equipment.
  • Ensure quality design and fabrication of control systems by making plant site or OEM shop visits to review control logic or assist in factory acceptance testing.
  • Support discussions with OEMs that identify issues and gaps and support activities to improve performance.
  • Develop and conduct training sessions as requested in the area of plant controls systems or combined cycle plant controls.
  • Work with other component experts in Technical Support to provide the information and data to support recommendations to the plant staff and Fossil Operations management on the condition of equipment, maintenance and operating needs of the fleet in the areas of the underlying process failures by leveraging OIS and PI data to develop fact based reports on equipment operation and condition assessments.
  • Provide or assist in the development of procedures, specifications, work scopes, schedules, project costs, or identifying the source of technical resources to support replacement of control systems.
  • Improve unit performance in the areas of load ramp rate, steam temperature control, pressure ramp rates and stack emissions.
  • Active member of peer groups and industry technical groups to promote communication and sharing of best practices between the plants and knowledge transfer from industry groups.
  • Support NERC compliance in the areas of turbine governor and cyber security with gathering information and testing procedure development.
  • Support the implementation of the risk management processes and tools into the Plant View equipment assessments.
