About The Position

This position will be responsible for conducting commercial and trading activities associated with feed ingredient commodities (wheat midds, corn products, renewables, canola products and cottonseeds). The role involves managing the day-to-day merchandising of specific commodity markets, executing strategies to grow market share and optimize profitability, and deploying risk capital within approved limits. It requires monitoring market trends, managing financial performance, building relationships with stakeholders, and overseeing supply chain logistics. The Sr Ingredient Trader must operate in strict compliance with company policies and collaborate with internal departments. The role also involves identifying new market opportunities, promoting innovation, representing the company at industry events, and mentoring a junior merchant.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Economics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in commodity merchandising, with a focus on feed ingredients.
  • Proven experience managing a P&L and driving profitability.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage trading positions within VAR and position limits, with strong understanding of risk capital deployment.
  • Strong knowledge of commodity markets, trading strategies, and risk management practices.
  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
  • Proficiency in commodity trading software and market analysis tools.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day merchandising of a specific commodity market or markets.
  • Execute merchandising strategies to grow market share and optimize profitability within the feed ingredient commodity sector.
  • Deploy risk capital within approved limits, adhering to Value-at-Risk (VAR) and position limits.
  • Execute risk management strategies to protect the business from market volatility.
  • Ensure trading decisions align with corporate risk appetite and governance standards.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and economic indicators to inform strategic decisions.
  • Align individual goals with corporate objectives, focusing on growth, sustainability, and operational excellence.
  • Manage the financial performance of their activity, ensuring profitability and budget adherence.
  • Analyze P&L statements, identifying areas for cost optimization and revenue growth.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, suppliers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and supply agreements to secure competitive advantages.
  • Collaborate with customers to identify their needs and provide tailored commodity solutions.
  • Provide guidance on market analysis, trading strategies, and negotiation techniques.
  • Oversee the supply chain and logistics for assigned commodities to ensure efficient delivery and inventory management.
  • Operate in strict compliance with all company policies, risk governance frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, including risk management, operations, and finance, to streamline processes.
  • Identify new market opportunities and expand the company’s footprint in the feed ingredient industry.
  • Promote innovation in product offerings and explore renewable and sustainable options.
  • Representing the company at industry events, conferences, and trade shows to build brand recognition and partnerships.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a junior merchant, fostering a high-performance culture.
