Sr. FP&A Analyst

Field NationMinnesota, MN
Hybrid

About The Position

Field Nation is seeking a Sr. FP&A Analyst to join their Finance organization. This role is crucial for modeling and analyzing the company's economics, which are driven by volume, take rate, marketplace liquidity, and operational costs. The analyst will build and own core financial models used by business teams, executives, and the Board for decision-making, including the driver-based operating model, headcount and people cost model, cash forecast, and investment business cases. The role requires close collaboration with business leaders, understanding their functions, and translating them into quantifiable data. This position reports to the VP of FP&A and works directly with the CFO. The role can be based in the Minneapolis office or remote.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, or another quantitative discipline.
  • 5+ years in FP&A, ideally in a consumption-based business (e.g., Payments, Marketplaces).
  • At least three years building models from a blank sheet.
  • Demonstrated experience building a headcount and people cost model.
  • Expert-level Excel skills, including multi-tab driver-based architecture, INDEX/MATCH and XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, dynamic arrays, named ranges, scenario toggles, data tables, and Power Query.
  • Ability to pull own data, with working SQL and/or hands-on experience with a BI tool (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker, Snowflake).
  • Hands-on experience with an ERP (NetSuite strongly preferred), ideally a CRM (Salesforce) and a payroll or HRIS system, and an understanding of their data structures or how to work with their data extracts.
  • Genuine business partnership skills, with the ability to build relationships independently.
  • Ability to present to VP and C-level executives, defend assumptions with data, handle direct challenges professionally, and adjust positions based on evidence.
  • Unfiltered communication skills, delivering bad news immediately and unspun with initial analysis and plans.
  • Intellectual honesty and precision in numbers.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or CFA.
  • Marketplace, platform, or other two-sided business model experience.
  • Experience in a private-equity or venture-backed company with sponsor and Board reporting cycles.
  • Familiarity with SaaS and subscription metrics (ARR, NDR, CAC payback, cohort economics).
  • Claude or other AI experience in application in FP&A.
  • Experience with iPaaS or integration tooling (Workato or similar) and systems implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Build, own, and continuously improve a fully driver-based headcount and people cost model, including hire timing, ramp, attrition, backfills, merit, promotion, bonus accrual and gross-up, commissions, taxes, benefits loads, and fully burdened cost by department, ensuring it ties to the P&L and cash forecast and can be rebuilt from a blank sheet.
  • Own the integrated three-statement operating model (P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow), ensuring it reconciles to actuals monthly and flexes on documented drivers rather than hardcoded overrides.
  • Own the annual budget and quarterly reforecast cycles end-to-end, including calendar, templates, driver interviews with business owners, consolidation, review packages, and the walk from prior forecast to current.
  • Build and maintain the cash and liquidity forecast, including a rolling 13-week view, reflecting marketplace funds flow, DSO/DPO dynamics, and working capital timing.
  • Serve as the embedded finance business partner to assigned departments, holding a standing cadence with each leader, owning their monthly financial review, helping them manage to plan, and acting as the point person before they spend money.
  • Deliver monthly variance analysis that explains variances in driver terms (rate vs. volume, timing vs. permanent, one-time vs. run-rate) with recommended actions.
  • Build business cases and ROI models for technology, headcount, and strategic investments, presenting base case, downside case, and critical assumptions.
  • Analyze marketplace and unit economics, including GTV, take rate, work order profitability, buyer cohort retention and net dollar retention, and the contribution margin of new initiatives.
  • Support Board and sponsor reporting, including KPI packages, cohort analysis, and diligence-grade supporting schedules.
  • Partner with Business Intelligence and Financial Systems to automate data flow from NetSuite, Salesforce, and HRIS, and eliminate manual data pulls for recurring reporting.
  • Turn around ad hoc analysis under real deadlines, ensuring it is clean, documented, and defensible.

Benefits

  • Base Salary Range: $130,000 - $150,000
  • Variable pay dependent on the position.
