Location: This position is onsite at the DE Karn 3&4 plant located in Essexville, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate. This position is a timebound full-time opportunity designed to support a specific business need with an anticipated duration through the cold and dark (retiring the generating facility) transition with an anticipated duration through approximately 2031. As a timebound employee, you will receive competitive compensation and full benefits consistent with company policy. During the this assignment, you are not eligible to apply for other opportunities until six months before the conclusion of the assignment. If you are unable to find another role within six months of the assignment end, your employment will be separated. General Summary of Job Responsibilities The Senior Equipment Technician is responsible for overseeing and managing the water chemistry and overall water needs of plant to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant plant operations. This position is responsible for performing sample collection and laboratory analysis to monitor water quality and support operational decision making. The Senior Equipment Technician evaluates trends in chemical and system performance data to proactively identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions to maintain optimal system performance. The Senior Equipment Technician will provide environmental quality checks and collect data to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. The Senior Equipment Technician will adhere to all internal safety standards and local, state, and federal safety regulations. The Senior Environmental Technician will need to have knowledge of utility practices and procedures, boiler water chemistry and environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)

  • Knowledge and/or experience in utility practices and procedures
  • Work as a team or alone depending on the needs of the service
  • Self-motivated and organized
  • Flexible and able to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities
  • Associate degree in a technical or scientific field and 4+ years of relevant experience [OR] High School and 6+ years of relevant experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily/weekly/monthly/annual environmental compliance tasks
  • Ensure work is performed in conformance with corporate safety procedures
  • Monitor water chemistry using EPRI standards to support plant operation
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues to address quality problems
  • Monitor and collect samples/analyze for NPDES permit requirements
  • Perform laboratory calibrations, maintenance and troubleshooting of various lab equipment
  • Collection of samples from various equipment to support plant needs
  • Management of waste characterization, transportation and disposal
  • Ability to safely offload tanker trucks and to handle various chemicals
  • Responding to environmental incidents
  • Work closely with operations department to support plant needs
  • Maintain water inventory
  • Environmental reporting (SARA Title III, ROP, COI, …)
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary
