About The Position

Duke Energy is seeking a Senior Engineer to serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for motors. This role provides technical support for operations, maintenance, and project activities for motors across multiple geographic regions. The Senior Engineer manages work in their engineering specialization with minimal supervision, developing advanced skills and the ability to work independently. They are expected to identify problems, develop solutions, and take action to resolve them. The Motor SME acts as the top technical authority, providing oversight and guidance to station and regional engineers and technologists in all aspects of motor operations and maintenance. This includes developing and reviewing specifications for new equipment, analyzing test results, supporting troubleshooting, and assessing reliability strategies for motor assets. The SME will also produce technical documentation (standards, guidelines, procedures) and engage with external service providers to ensure Duke Energy standards are applied to repair and replacement activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering
  • 6 years work experience
  • Proficient in practices of researching design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or PE
  • Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support for operations, maintenance, and project activities for motors across multiple geographic regions.

  • Serves as the top level of technical authority across RRE, providing oversight and guidance to station and regional engineers and technologists in all areas of motor operations and maintenance.
  • Develops and reviews specifications for new equipment.
  • Reviews test results.
  • Supports troubleshooting efforts.
  • Develops and assesses reliability strategy for motor assets across all RRE regions.
  • Produces technical documentation (standards, guidelines, procedures) in support of design, operations, and maintenance of RRE's motor assets.
  • Engages with external service providers to provide guidance on repair and replacement activities, ensuring that Duke Energy standards are consistently applied.
