About The Position

The Lead Engineering Technologist will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for motors, providing technical support for operations, maintenance, and project activities for motors across multiple geographic regions. This role involves managing work in engineering areas of specialization with minimal supervision, developing advanced skills, and working independently. The Motor SME acts as the top-level technical authority across RRE, offering oversight and guidance to station and regional engineers and technologists in all aspects of motor operations and maintenance. Responsibilities include developing and reviewing specifications for new equipment, evaluating test results, supporting troubleshooting, and creating reliability strategies for motor assets. The SME will also produce technical documentation (standards, guidelines, procedures) and engage with external service providers to ensure Duke Energy standards are consistently applied.

Requirements

Associates Degree in Engineering Technology along with 8 years of related work experience OR High School Diploma / GED and 10 years of related work experience.
Proficient in practices of researching design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Either 6+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 8+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 10+ years equivalent experience without a degree.

Nice To Haves

Experience in the utility industry.
Demonstrates skills applying leadership in the areas of technical project management, program oversight and/or governance.
Experience with motors: Analysis of on-line and off-line electrical test results (e.g. insulation resistance, motor current signature analysis).
Review of repair plans and activities.
Knowledge of motor design and construction.
