Strata-G is seeking an experienced Sr. Engineer II - III with the following: Summary: The Electrical Engineer for this position will be supporting Nuclear Operations Engineering at Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a System Engineer for the site. The ideal candidate will have experience with electrical power distribution systems, system design, field work implementation, as well as modifications to existing infrastructure. A fundamental understanding of instrumentation and control systems is preferred but not required.

Requirements

  • Technical knowledge of engineering systems and electrical interfaces, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods, and fieldwork implementation of design.
  • Software knowledge: SKM, AutoCAD, Maximo, Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to obtain Q-Clearance.
  • Good knowledge of major industry or regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to the particular within electrical engineering discipline.
  • Effective communicator.
  • BS in electrical engineering discipline from a four-year accredited college or university
  • 6+ years of experience required.
  • 10+ preferred
  • FE (EIT) certificate preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline or the sciences from a four-year accredited college or university
  • 10+ years of experience required.
  • Professional Engineer License preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline or the sciences from a four -year accredited college or university
  • 12+ years of experience required.
  • Professional Engineer License preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • A fundamental understanding of instrumentation and control systems is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares engineering products such as: calculations, specifications, scopes of work, analyses, designs/ design changes, and engineering reports.
  • Understands and uses computer software and applications associated with engineering assignments. (AutoCAD, SKM, VAULT, Maximo)
  • Follows procedures in the development of engineering products.
  • May provide technical support in the areas of operations, maintenance, inspections and tests, and configuration management for assigned systems and components.
  • Maintains timely and accurate oral and written technical reports regarding assigned engineering activities.
  • Keeps proper engineering files and records.
  • Applies industry codes and standards in development of engineering products.
  • Complies with company’s safety awareness program, office and/or field safety policies.
  • Acts with integrity in all elements of responsibility.
  • Expresses ideas clearly and listens effectively to the ideas of others.
  • Perform field walkdowns with electrical craft and support personnel.
  • Maintains liaison with design and drafting groups.
  • Prepares, reviews and approves drawings as required.
  • Advises the status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays and adverse problems.
  • Ensures quality, quantity and completeness of the assigned engineering tasks.
  • Plans and schedules engineering efforts associated with assigned projects.
  • Continually upgrades technical knowledge and capabilities and pursue additional coursework and training to further develop skillset.
  • Complies with company’s safety awareness program, office and/or field safety policies.
  • Under minimal direction, completes engineering assignments of advanced complexity.
  • Comprehensive understanding of a specific discipline and has basic understanding of other disciplines.
  • May provide technical guidance to a modest sized group of engineers, designers, and specialists.
  • Fully versed with the preparation and execution of project scope with specific discipline.
  • Fully versed in the methods of business development and able to lead the preparation of proposals.
  • Fully versed with codes, permits and company cornerstone applications.
  • Fully versed with and can check and review the work sequence, general content, and the methods used to generate specifications for the purchase of material, equipment, systems, services, or construction within a specific discipline.
  • Fully versed with the process of preparing and checking of calculations as well as the approval, revision, retention, and storage of calculations with a specific discipline.
  • Able to learn and use basic CAD sketching tools.
  • Can oversee the review and checking of construction and vendor drawings.
  • Fully versed in the collection and/or evaluation of data and information regarding technical and economic factors including physical, chemical, environmental, maintenance, operational, regulatory, constructability, and/or schedule factors relating to a specific subject within a discipline.
  • Understands the external factors that impact specific engineering problems.
  • Fully understands the use of requisitions and the role of materials management.
  • Reviews and advises on purchase orders and subcontracts.
  • Fully understands and reviews interdisciplinary vendor documents.
  • Leads or assists with the development of manpower, man-hour, and labor cost requirements for a project and can monitor it to aid in evaluating the budget.
  • Leads estimating tasks and performs material take-offs for a specific discipline.
  • Has advanced knowledge of discipline’s material cost and of cost analysis and forecasting.
  • Fully understands and assists with the planning and scheduling of engineering tasks within a specific discipline.
  • Fully versed in the project change control process and can identify a potential change.
  • Has an advanced level of knowledge of discipline’s equipment and material lists and has the ability to instruct others in understanding their use and requirements.
  • Maximizes the integration of all project functional requirements into a complete project plan.
  • Maintains positive relationships among peers and management.
  • Builds positive relationships both internally and externally to engineering.
  • Under general direction, completes engineering assignments of advanced complexity.
