Sr. Engineer - Drainage (PE Required) Full-time exempt Professional Kirkland, WA, US PACE Engineers, A Verdantas Company , is a Pacific Northwest engineering firm providing civil and structural engineering, planning, surveying, and construction management services from offices in Washington and Oregon. As a Sr. Drainage Design Engineer , you will lead the planning, design, and delivery of stormwater and drainage infrastructure projects. This role combines technical leadership, project management, and client engagement, supporting transportation, land development, and public works projects while ensuring compliance with state and local regulations. This job focuses heavily on working with and through others, building and maintaining relationships, and working closely and accurately within established guidelines. It requires an effective communicator who can motivate others while understanding and responding to their needs and concerns, work with many different people in a friendly and genuinely supportive manner, and maintain a persuasive, teaching-oriented mindset when communicating company policies, programs, and systems. The role involves a faster-than-average pace of work, with a strong emphasis on handling detailed tasks quickly, correctly, and efficiently, articulating information clearly, and following up carefully and cheerfully to maintain work quality and relationships. Timeliness is critical, and success in this position depends on consistently completing work quickly and accurately while closely following established guidelines, structure, and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Washington Professional Engineering license
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with WSDOT and Washington State Department of Ecology design manuals
  • Ability to work independently and manage design tasks

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of experience in the design and construction of highway-related drainage elements.
  • 2+ yrs of WSDOT highway drainage design experience within the last 4yrs
  • Experience on Design-Build Projects
  • WSDOT Highway Runoff Manual Training Certification
  • Familiarity with 1D and 2D HEC-RAS Models, SRH2D Models
  • Experience with MicroStation and InRoads
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling using Western Washington Hydraulic Model or MGS Flood
  • Experience developing proposals, scopes of work, and budgets
  • Project Experience with local public agencies
  • Client connections and relationships with local and state agencies

  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of stormwater and drainage infrastructure projects.

  • Ensure compliance with state and local regulations.
