About The Position

RK&K is currently hiring an Engineer to join our growing Water Resources team in Richmond, VA. This is an excellent opportunity for you to take the next step in your career. On our Water Resources team, you will support multiple VDOT and municipal projects, working alongside a multidisciplinary team of experienced professionals throughout our entire company. Types of water resources projects include, but are not limited to: Closed storm system analysis and open channel designs, Stormwater management facility design, Erosion and sediment control design, Green infrastructure design, Riverine system hydraulics & hydrology, Floodplain analysis, mapping, and flood mitigation, Watershed planning and studies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Biological Systems Engineering
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, Teams)
  • Coursework in Fluid Mechanics, Water Resources Engineering, and/or Urban Hydraulics and Hydrology
  • Experience with Autcad Civil3D and/or Microstation/ORD
  • One (1) – Three (3) years of experience in water resources engineering
  • Knowledge of commonly used hydrologic and hydraulic computational methodologies and analysis tools/trends
  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills required
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work both collaboratively/in a team environment and independently

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with BMP routing software such as Pondpack
  • Experience with hydraulic design software such as HY-8 and Ensoftec
  • Experience performing field work for in support of various water resources projects
  • Experience with ArcGIS and ESRI software
  • Project experience related to hydraulic analysis of riverine systems and culvert/bridge stream crossings
  • Floodplain analysis utilizing HEC-RAS software
  • Hydrologic analysis utilizing HEC-HMS software
  • Engineer in Training (EIT)

Responsibilities

  • Deliver world class solutions to our existing portfolio of public/private sector water resources customers
  • Proactively deliver a wide range of water resource projects in accordance with the scope, schedule, and budget set by the Project Manager
  • Provide excellent client services with a focus on quality and timeliness
  • Report to a Senior Project Manager; meet and work directly with other design team members, project engineers, design technicians, drafters, surveyors, contractors, inspectors, public agency officials, and clients
  • Provide office and site visit support for assigned and prospective projects
  • Assist with the development of necessary documentation and preliminary modeling, analysis, and due diligence in support of project pursuits
  • Perform modeling of complex riverine systems and existing watersheds / storm sewer networks, and develop recommended improvement alternatives
  • Prepare clear and concise drainage reports and hydraulic memoranda documenting analysis approach, findings, and recommendations
  • Assist with civil engineering plans development using AutoDesk Civil3D, MicroStation, and GIS.
  • Proactively grow in experience to lead tasks.
