About The Position

Pratt & Whitney is seeking an experienced Design Engineering professional for the F135 Fan design team who works independently. Experience in commercial and/or military Fan, Low Pressure Compressor, and/or High Pressure Compressor design is desired, as is static hardware design experience. The role involves design support across all phases of the design cycle, from preliminary through detailed design, validation, manufacturing, and operational service. Responsibilities include working on designs of components within the fan module, supporting the installed F135 fleet through commonality and optimization, expanding repairability/maintainability, and working with quality clinics to support test and verification of field issues. The role also involves designing and implementing common procedures, developing data and making layouts, sketching, and writing notes for design proposals. Additionally, the engineer will design and review component layouts, calculate stack-ups, perform cost studies, resolve complex design problems, review completed layouts and drawings, and communicate with other engineering personnel. Technical leadership on IPTs and training less experienced engineers are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering with 5+ years of Mechanical Design engineering experience OR Advanced degree with 3+ years of experience
  • Experience with hardware, reading blueprints, and manufacturing methods
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design support across all phases of the design cycle, preliminary through detailed design, validation, manufacturing, and operational service.
  • Work on the designs of any component within the fan module (i.e. cases, frames, IBR’s, bypass ducts, kinematics, etc…)
  • Support the existing installed F135 fleet through enhanced commonality and optimization of components.
  • Expand repairability/maintainability for our military customer and MRO facilities.
  • Work with quality clinic and related departments to support the test and verification of field issues.
  • Design and implement common procedures and standard work across the organization to optimize efficiency and quality.
  • Develop data and makes layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal.
  • Design and review layouts of components, calculate stack-up of detail components, and perform major cost studies.
  • Resolve design problems of difficult-to-complex scope to ensure project completion.
  • Review completed layouts and drawings to ensure clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
  • Communicate with the other engineering personnel to coordinate the interrelated design and ensure project completion.
