About The Position

Pratt & Whitney is seeking an experienced Design Engineering professional for the F135 Fan design team. This role involves working independently on the design of components within the fan module, including cases, frames, IBRs, bypass ducts, and kinematics. The position supports the existing F135 fleet through commonality and optimization, expands repairability/maintainability for military customers and MRO facilities, and collaborates with quality clinics to verify field issues. The role also focuses on designing and implementing common procedures, developing data and layouts for design proposals, calculating component stack-ups, performing cost studies, and resolving complex design problems. Communication with other engineering personnel is crucial for coordinating interrelated designs and ensuring project completion. Additionally, the role provides technical leadership on Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and assists in training less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Design support across all phases of the design cycle: preliminary through detailed design, validation, manufacturing, and operational service.
  • Work on the designs of any component within the fan module (i.e., cases, frames, IBR’s, bypass ducts, kinematics, etc…)
  • Support the existing installed F135 fleet through enhanced commonality and optimization of components.
  • Expand repairability/maintainability for our military customer and MRO facilities.
  • Work with quality clinic and related departments to support the test and verification of field issues.
  • Design and implement common procedures and standard work across the organization to optimize efficiency and quality.
  • Develop data and makes layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposals.
  • Design and review layouts of components, calculate stack-up of detail components, and perform major cost studies.
  • Resolve design problems of difficult-to-complex scope to ensure project completion.
  • Review completed layouts and drawings to ensure clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
  • Communicate with other engineering personnel to coordinate interrelated design and ensure project completion.
