About The Position

The Sr. Embedded System Security Engineer will support Collins Aerospace’s Product Cybersecurity Organization on strategic defense and protected communications programs for U.S. military and international customers. The role supports multiple contracts, with assignments aligned to the employee’s skills and opportunities for career growth. The engineer will work collaboratively with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate cybersecurity into system design and support cybersecurity certification, accreditation, verification, and validation activities. This position is onsite in Marlborough, Massachusetts, and requires an active, transferable SECRET clearance before the start date. U.S. citizenship is required.

Requirements

Typically requires a STEM degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and at least 3 years of experience.
Active and transferable SECRET clearance required before the start date.
U.S. citizenship required because only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Direct experience in System Security Engineering.
Experience applying the Risk Management Framework (RMF) to mission systems used in disconnected DoD environments.
Experience with general technical security concepts, technologies, and implementations.
Technical writing skills and ability to develop security documentation.
Experience using analytics to conduct in-depth reviews of system requirements.
Experience interpreting system models, diagrams, and architectures to assess security risks.

Nice To Haves

Experience with NSA cryptographic certification, Cross Domain Solution (CDS) requirements, and National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP).
Experience in at least two of these areas: systems, test, software, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
Familiarity with DOORS, JIRA, Confluence, Cameo (MBSE experience), or other systems modeling and agile tools.
Advanced security-related certifications such as CISSP or Security+ and an electrical or computer engineering degree.
Prior experience with security protocols used in embedded systems and communications for aerospace environments.
Familiarity with DoD-focused security assessment tools such as SCC, NMAP, Evaluate-STIG, Nessus, ACAS, Vulnerator, or eMASSster.
Willingness to learn about satellite systems, communication systems, and evolving security technologies.

Responsibilities

Support system certification and accreditation efforts, including Risk Management Framework (RMF) Authorization to Operate (ATO) and National Security Agency (NSA) Type 1 Cryptographic Certification.
Decompose, allocate, implement, and verify cybersecurity requirements using systems engineering practices.
Analyze system requirements, models, diagrams, and architectures to identify potential security vulnerabilities and risks.
Participate in system design discussions and provide security engineering input.
Collaborate with systems engineers and developers to integrate security considerations into system design.
Participate in security-focused system verification and validation, including writing test plans and procedures, conducting tests, and providing remediation recommendations.
Maintain awareness of evolving security threats and industry best practices.
Contribute to a collaborative team culture and continuous learning.
