Job Overview The Sr. Director, Operational Excellence is a senior leadership role responsible for driving enterprise‑wide continuous improvement, value creation, portfolio prioritization, and performance excellence across DePuy Synthes operations. This position plays a central role in strengthening operational capabilities and delivering performance and financial outcomes. This leader will design, orchestrate, and mature business processes and programs that position DePuy Synthes Supply Chain & Operations as a competitive advantage, connecting enterprise growth and financial strategy to operations functional strategy and guiding investment prioritization and benefits realization. The position partners closely with business unit and functional leaders across operations, finance, commercial, and R&D to embed a culture of performance, continuous improvement, and operational discipline across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, or related discipline).
  • 12-14 years of progressive experience in operations, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, or operational excellence within a regulated or complex environment.
  • Significant exposure to and/or direct experience in core operations functions, including but not limited to Planning, Procurement, Manufacturing, Distribution, Project Management, and Quality Assurance
  • Previous Commercial-facing roles with strong knowledge of Orthopaedics business model and product portfolio
  • Demonstrated senior‑level leadership experience driving enterprise or multi‑site operational improvement, cost improvement, or strategy initiatives.
  • Strong financial acumen with ability to frame performance and financial outcomes effectively for a senior leadership audience
  • Proven expertise in continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, structured problem solving).
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate strategy into measurable operational results.
  • Experience influencing and partnering with executive‑level stakeholders across functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
  • Excellent communication, change leadership, and people‑development skills.
  • Prior responsibility for global or regional Operational Excellence programs.
  • Demonstrated success leading large‑scale transformation or turnaround initiatives.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent certification.
  • English (additional languages a plus).
  • Lean Six Sigma or related continuous improvement certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as global functional owner and sponsor for key business and strategic processes and frameworks, including but not limited to Long-Range Financial planning (LRFP), Long-Range Portfolio Planning (LRPP), Project & Portfolio Management (PPM), and Margin Expansion / Value Capture Plan
  • Partner closely with cross-functional leaders to define and deliver a process maturity roadmap that connects these key processes by defining critical handoffs and integration points, building an E2E process with embedded mechanisms that ensure continual alignment to strategy and maximum return on investment
  • Define and deploy the DePuy Synthes Operational Excellence approach and strategy, working closely with DS leaders and J&J counterparts to adopt a fit-for-purpose, business and customer-centric operational excellence framework
  • Lead the Operational Excellence strategy, roadmap / blueprint, and deployment across supply chain & operations to improve performance outcomes
  • Acting operations lead for cross-functional process improvement and value creation opportunities and initiatives
  • In partnership with Leadership & Learning , act as a champion for continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, problem‑solving rigor) and ensure consistent application across sites and functions.
  • Partner with senior leaders to identify, prioritize, and execute high‑impact improvement and/or value creation initiatives aligned with business strategy and performance goals.
  • Establish governance, metrics, and performance management systems to track operational excellence outcomes and sustain improvements.
  • Build and develop a high‑performing Operational Excellence organization, including coaching, capability building, and talent development across direct and dotted-line reports.
  • Drive standardization, best‑practice sharing, and scalability across sites and regions.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally to support transformation initiatives, including digital enablement and process simplification.
