About The Position

This is an exciting opportunity to advance powerbuilding in a state that is central to the fight for our multiracial democracy. Reporting directly to the Executive Director and as a core member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Senior Director of Powerbuilding ensures that TIRRC’s campaigns and communications are strategic, impactful, and effective in building collective power with the communities we serve. This role will be part of casting a bold vision for campaigns that build the power needed to challenge authoritarian threats to our communities, and is responsible for translating that vision into high quality implementation by aligning goals with team capacity as the supervisor of the organizing, advocacy, and communications teams. In partnership with the senior leadership team, the Senior Director of Powerbuilding helps articulate and execute a vision that strengthens TIRRC’s impact, builds grassroots power, and advances policy and systems change.

Requirements

  • Deep-rooted commitment to social justice and civic engagement
  • Background in building power within member-centered organizations
  • Proven track record of integrating racial justice principles and cultural competency into every level of your work
  • Over 5 years of program experience
  • Skilled at designing, planning, and executing programs
  • Ability to navigate fast-paced environments by balancing strategic foresight with a disciplined approach to deadlines and organizational detail
  • At least 2 years in a leadership position
  • Ability to drive results across multiple teams
  • Experience managing diverse departments, fostering accountability, and maintaining transparent communication
  • Relationship builder
  • Proficient in public speaking, group facilitation, and navigating sensitive internal matters
  • Ability to work with a high degree of independence while remaining a deeply collaborative partner to cross-functional teams
  • Ability to thrive in evolving environments, bringing both creativity and analytical rigor to the table

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for campaigns, organizing, advocacy, and communications initiatives, ensuring high-quality design, implementation, and impact
  • Drive alignment, coordination, and clarity across advocacy, organizing, and communications to deliver cohesive, high-impact programs and campaigns that advance ambitious goals and build power for Tennessee’s immigrant communities
  • Lead, manage, and coach program directors and other staff, ensuring clear roles, accountability, and alignment with organizational priorities
  • Work with senior leadership to foster collaboration, synchronization, and clear lines of communication with organizing, advocacy, and communications
  • Lead the creation and rollout of new program initiatives, including defining goals, timelines, and success indicators
  • Ensure campaigns are mission-aligned, community-centered, responsive to emerging needs and opportunities, and grounded in realistic political and power analyses
  • Oversee the development and execution of local, state, and federal program initiatives, including campaign strategy and implementation
  • Ensure timely completion of all programmatic deliverables, including grant-related outcomes and reporting requirements.
  • Guide and manage strategic external partnerships to advance TIRRC’s mission and programmatic goals
  • Serve as key media spokesperson on the campaigns, policy advocacy, organizing efforts, and other organizational priorities
  • Represent TIRRC with funders, partners, coalitions, and community stakeholders as needed
  • Participate in fundraising efforts by contributing campaign expertise, strategy, and impact narratives
