About The Position

Lam Research is looking for an experienced candidate to lead the implementation and operation of a global payroll, time recording and processing structure. This is a newly created role with two distinct phases of work. First, is the design and rollout of a global payroll and time operating model including but not limited to: selecting and implementing a global time and attendance platform and a global payroll aggregator, consolidating the multiple existing provider relationships, building the retained organization, and migrating twenty countries in waves. Second, the incumbent runs that operation on an ongoing basis, owning payroll delivery, statutory compliance, controls and vendor performance for all worldwide employees. The role reports to the Vice President, Corporate Controller within the Chief Accounting Officer organization rolling up within the Finance and Controllership organization. Payroll is among the largest expense lines the company manages; it posts directly to the general ledger, and it carries SOX controls, statutory filings and audit exposure that belong to Controllership.

Requirements

  • Experience in a high-growth, fast-paced, multinational, publicly traded company, with the pace, scale and external reporting discipline that environment requires.
  • Fifteen or more years of progressive payroll leadership, including multi-country or global payroll ownership, with at least five years at director level or above.
  • Demonstrated experience selecting and implementing a global payroll structure
  • Demonstrated experience implementing an enterprise time and attendance platform covering both clock-based populations and project or customer time capture.
  • Working command of statutory payroll and employment requirements in Asia, Europe and the United States, including data-privacy regimes such as China PIPL and GDPR.
  • Payroll accounting fluency: gross-to-net mechanics, payroll journal construction, general ledger reconciliation and accrual treatment. Experience posting payroll to SAP is expected.
  • Demonstrated ownership of SOX controls over payroll and direct experience with internal and external audit.
  • Substantial vendor management experience: competitive tendering, commercial negotiation, service-level design and holding providers to account on performance.
  • Evidence of building and leading distributed teams across time zones.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Semiconductor industry experience, or comparable high-technology or advanced manufacturing experience, with the mix of manufacturing, logistics and field-service populations that implies.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP SuccessFactors and Workday, and with an SAP ECC to S/4HANA transition.
  • Equity and stock administration inputs to payroll, including ESPP and RSU treatment across multiple tax jurisdictions.
  • CPP, CPA, MBA or an equivalent professional qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Translate the approved model into a detailed design covering process, platform, vendor network, organization and controls.
  • Development of global payroll policies and governance
  • Lead vendor selection and contracting for the global time and attendance platform, the global payroll aggregator, and the in-country processors including evaluation, negotiation, and service levels,
  • Own the platform, integration and data. data standardization and cleansing
  • Sequence and execute migration in a phased approach
  • Design and recruit the retained organization.
  • Ensure accurate, on-time payroll in every country, every cycle.
  • Own the pre- and post-payroll control framework, variance review and approval, off-cycle and exception processing, and reconciliation of payroll journals to the general ledger
  • Maintain segregation of duties across Lam and the vendor network,
  • Statutory filing, remittance and year-end processing worldwide, with the supporting audit evidence.
  • Own payroll data privacy across all applicable jurisdictions
  • Own the SOX control set for payroll and act as primary interface to internal and external audit.
  • Vendor and commercial management. Manage the aggregator relationship and the in-country processor network against agreed service levels.
  • Run quarterly business reviews, apply service credits where earned, benchmark pricing, and maintain vendor risk and continuity arrangements.
  • Hold the aggregator accountable for statutory change in the aggregated countries and engage processors directly in the large countries and China.
  • Lead, develop and retain the global payroll and time organization.
  • Maintain the employee experience, and drive improvement in cost per payslip, error rates and cycle time.
