About The Position

Under general supervision, the candidate participates at all levels in producing at least one news and news analysis program per week to be broadcast on NMPBS, plus additional video, written, and audio production duties for news and public affairs programming for various digital platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and podcasting platforms. Performs various other duties for NMPBS. New Mexico PBS is looking for a strong television production professional and journalist to help run the state’s premiere weekly news and news analysis show, New Mexico in Focus. NMiF provides ongoing, thoughtful analysis and coverage of issues important to communities across New Mexico. The role offers the opportunity to dig deeper than most news programs and follow emerging issues as they develop. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills in studio and field video production, putting together a news show for broadcast and digital platforms, and a strong journalistic background. Some on-camera experience or a willingness to develop that skill is preferred. Applicants should be eager to lead with ideas and collaborate with the talented team at NMPBS. Responsibilities include assisting in all aspects of show production: editing show segments in Adobe Premiere, building a rundown for each week’s broadcast, identifying topics of public interest and building those into compelling stories, booking guests, preparing scripts and interview questions, and ensuring the accuracy of the final product. The role also involves engaging and growing the audience in broadcast and digital spaces, working closely with the station's communications and marketing team, and interviewing a variety of individuals. The position offers opportunities to learn new skills, provide clear production direction, and offer creative input to the production staff, including on-air staff, other producers/directors, interns, and students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license.

  • Significant television production experience.
  • Experience in efficient, detail-focused video editing and post-production.
  • Experience with boothing shows (speaking to anchor in the moment, identifying edits, listening for errors).
  • Proficiency in rundown building.
  • Understanding of TV production logistics & execution.
