About The Position

New Mexico PBS is seeking a Multimedia Producer/Director, Senior to participate at all levels in producing at least one news and news analysis program per week for broadcast on NMPBS. This role also involves additional video, written, and audio production duties for news and public affairs programming across various digital platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and podcasting platforms. The successful candidate will help run New Mexico in Focus, the state's premiere weekly news and news analysis show, which offers in-depth coverage of issues important to New Mexico communities. The role requires demonstrated skills in studio and field video production, producing news shows for broadcast and digital platforms, and a strong journalistic background. An ideal candidate would have some on-camera experience or a willingness to develop this skill. The position involves assisting in all aspects of show production, including editing segments in Adobe Premiere, building rundowns, identifying topics of public interest, booking guests, preparing scripts and interview questions, and ensuring accuracy. The role also focuses on engaging and growing the audience across broadcast and digital spaces, collaborating with the communications and marketing team, and conducting interviews. The position offers the opportunity to provide clear production direction and creative input to the production staff, including on-air staff, other producers/directors, interns, and students.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree.
At least 3 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license.

Nice To Haves

Significant television production experience
Experience in efficient, detail-focused video editing and post-production
Boothing shows: speaking to anchor in the moment, identifying edits in the moment, listening for errors that will need correcting in post-production, and knowing if they're indeed correctable in the moment.
Proficiency in rundown building: visualizing and crafting an entire TV news program
Understanding of TV production logistics & execution to allow for efficient working relationship with production team
Experience in field production: overseeing a production team, watching & listening to interviews & filming to know if and when there's enough to build a story, and what else is necessary if not
Journalism background
Experience pitching & executing news stories either on a team or individually
Experience in news writing, first and foremost for broadcast, but also in print style
Experience supervising reporters using strong editorial news judgement
Deep of understanding of journalistic ethics
On-camera experience or a willingness to develop that skill.

Responsibilities

Participates at all levels in producing at least one news and news analysis program per week for broadcast on NMPBS.
Performs additional video, written, and audio production duties for news and public affairs programming for various digital platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and podcasting platforms.
Assists in all aspects of show production: editing show segments in Adobe Premiere, building a rundown for each week’s broadcast, identifying topics of public interest and building those into compelling stories, booking guests, preparing scripts and interview questions, and ensuring the accuracy of our final product.
Works closely with the station's communications and marketing team to keep NMiF top of mind in the community and on social media.
Conducts interviews with individuals ranging from voters to candidates for governor.
Provides clear production direction and creative input to the production staff, including on-air staff, other producers/directors, interns and students.
