About The Position

The 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office seeks a Senior Deputy District Attorney to serve as a Special Assistant United States Attorney (SAUSA). As a SAUSA, the Senior Deputy District Attorney will work directly with and under the supervision of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado to prosecute federal crimes which impact Douglas, Lincoln, and Elbert Counties, with an emphasis on violent crimes and drug trafficking crimes. The SAUSA will work closely with agents from the DEA, FBI, ATF, and other state and federal agencies to develop investigative strategies, employ sophisticated surveillance techniques, and shape cases from their inception. Prosecutors who handle violent crimes and drug trafficking crimes at the U.S. Attorney’s Office enjoy fast-paced litigation practices that will frequently get them on their feet in U.S. District Court. If selected for this unique opportunity, you will prosecute federal crimes as a Special Assistant United States Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Denver, Colorado. You will be an employee of the Office of the District Attorney for the 23rd Judicial District, but working primarily on federal court matters at the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The candidate must be comfortable with using good analytical skills to make independent decisions. Candidates must also be devoted to justice, excellence, fairness, and representing the public.

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience as an attorney at law, including two years of experience prosecuting or defending criminal cases in court.
  • Possession of a license to practice law in Colorado from the Colorado Supreme Court at the time of application. If you are not currently licensed to practice in Colorado, and are selected for this position, you must begin the reciprocity process once you accept your formal offer. By position, the applicant must have a reasonable expectation of becoming licensed by the Colorado Supreme Court within 6 months of their hire date. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred five years of experience as a prosecutor
  • Experience prosecuting 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1), 18 U.S.C. § 924(c), 18 U.S.C. § 1951, 21 U.S.C. § 841(a)(1), 21 U.S.C. § 846, or similar state statutes
