About The Position

Provident Savings Bank is seeking an experienced Sr. CRE Underwriter to join our Real Estate Financing team. The Sr. CRE Underwriter is responsible for the comprehensive underwriting of complex major loan packages, with a primary focus on multi‑family Commercial Real Estate and Construction loans. This role provides expert analysis, ensures regulatory and policy compliance, supports departmental operations, and serves as a key resource to loan agents, brokers, and internal staff.

Requirements

  • Completion of coursework in Appraisal, Escrow, and Real Estate Finance and Principles.
  • Minimum of five years of mortgage banking experience, including at least three years as an underwriter; senior‑level underwriting experience strongly preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of bank lending policies, regulatory requirements, and major loan underwriting procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across all organizational levels and with external partners.
  • High numerical aptitude, strong analytical ability, and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to read, write, perform basic math, follow instructions, analyze information, and make independent decisions within the scope of responsibility.
  • Valid CA driver’s license and current auto insurance meeting or exceeding CA DMV requirements is required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs advanced underwriting and credit analysis for major loan submissions, including multi‑family CRE and Construction loans, ensuring full compliance with bank policies, underwriting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides expert guidance to loan applicants, loan agents, brokers, and internal staff regarding lending programs, underwriting criteria, title and escrow procedures, and loan processing requirements.
  • Conducts preliminary screening of loan submissions, prepares initial system runs, and ensures all loan data is accurately updated, logged, and maintained.
  • Ensures loan files contain all required documentation, including appraisals, credit reports, financial statements, and tax returns; coordinates with loan agents to complete comprehensive loan packages.
  • Prepares and presents detailed Loan Committee proposals for review and approval.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all financial, customer, employee, and corporate information.
  • Supports departmental operations by assisting with training, mentoring, and providing guidance to staff in the absence of the CRE Loan Administrator.
  • Ensures compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act, OFAC, and all applicable lending regulations, including conducting due diligence and reporting potential risks.
  • Maintains a high level of performance, accuracy, and productivity to support departmental goals and service standards.
  • Other duties/special projects as assigned.
