About The Position

Excess Reinsurance, a market leader in the self-funded medical insurance market, is looking for an experienced Sr. Underwriter to join our team. The Sr. Underwriter is responsible for risk assessment--identifying and pursuing quality risks while maintaining a profitable loss ratio. This individual will work closely with the Marketing team to sell new business and maintain existing business.

Requirements

• 5+ years’ experience in medical stop loss insurance
• Bachelor’s degree or extensive Underwriting
• Customer service skills and experience
• Critical thinking
• Judgment and decision making
• Good communication skills

Responsibilities

• Risk selection and decision making – Identify and pursue quality risks while maintaining profitable loss ratio
• Compliance - review and approval of supporting documentation to policy issue
• Coordinate underwriting related issues with other departments
• Marketing assistance – work with sales staff to develop and maintain strong relationships with producers
• Assist in training and evaluation of underwriting
