About The Position

Performs walking, mobile and indoor gas leak surveys. Installs, maintains, and repairs test stations, magnesium anode systems and impressed current systems on gas mains and services. Obtains necessary data and makes calculations for the design, operation, monitoring and adjustment of the cathodic protection facilities on gas distribution system. On-call for major gas and electric emergency events. Work is physically demanding and performed outside alone in all types of weather 80-90% of the time. Note: Position will be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Requirements

  • Experience with Administrative paperwork and data entry in computer-based programs
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Good mechanical skills
  • Ability to work in and adapt to adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to work independently without supervision and/or with others
  • Ability to resolve complex problems
  • Must be able to respond to off hour/emergency calls
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Expected to travel for training
  • Medical Certification will be required to drive vehicles over 10,000 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Cross-trained and qualified in all phases of job, both leak survey and corrosion control
  • Regular customer contact while conducting duties
  • Identify, troubleshoot and solve static, dynamic and interference cathodic protection conditions and leak survey on distribution and transmission pipelines belonging to PECO and foreign transmission companies - at times requiring working jointly with companies
  • Design and draw up jobs for all types of cathodic protection systems
  • Resolve protection repairs and recoating of main, including repairing leaks aboveground
  • Work with PUC inspectors to ensure company compliance with regulations
  • Conduct bi-monthly, yearly, and 10-year inspections of cathodic protection systems
  • When required rebuild rectifiers; install E and AA test stations
  • Maintain and update maps
  • Resurvey and reclassify leaks
  • Inspect 3rd party excavations for damage and repair when necessary
  • Leak survey during main pressure changes, blasting and assisting gas crews locating leaks in a large area
  • Perform as a first responder to odors when required; including indoor/outdoor investigations
  • Conduct frost survey of cast iron main during the winter season
  • Maintain and become qualified to use the various leak survey and corrosion control instruments/equipment including backhoe operation
