About The Position

Paychex is seeking a Senior Corporate Counsel to advise and support its professional employer organization (PEO) and insurance agency. The role supports the business across insurance claims, litigation, commercial contracting, employment law, regulatory compliance, benefits, employment tax, and product and go-to-market initiatives. The attorney will manage a varied and high-volume workload, independently handle complex, high-value matters, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders, using a business-oriented approach.

Requirements

Juris Doctor (JD).
Admission to at least one U.S. state bar in good standing.
At least 10 years of relevant experience.
Ability to proactively manage a high-volume, varied workload.
Ability to independently handle complex, high-value matters.
Ability to partner effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders, and approach legal matters with a business-oriented mindset.
Excellent communication, analytical, and strategic-thinking skills.

Nice To Haves

Experience with professional employer organizations (PEOs).
Experience with employment or commercial litigation.

Responsibilities

Manage a portfolio of employment practices liability insurance (EPLI) claims, including overseeing outside counsel, settlement, strategy, coverage issues, carrier coordination, stakeholder support, and reporting.
Manage non-EPLI commercial and employment litigation and government agency proceedings.
Review, draft, and negotiate commercial contracts.
Provide general legal support to Paychex PEO and Paychex Insurance Agency concerning employment law, regulatory compliance and licensing, health and welfare and retirement benefits, employment tax, and product and go-to-market initiatives.
Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
