About The Position

The Sr. Controls Technician is the PCIS systems owner for the production areas and responsible for eliminating maintenance and breakdown related losses and assisting with project development and new installations. The Sr. Controls Technician is responsible for building capability within the PCIS team. This role includes active participation and leadership in project development for future expansion, actively leading and completing small controls projects, and serving as the spokesperson for the maintenance group during all discussions. The technician will be the technical expert in the assigned area, including electrical and controls systems, with a thorough understanding of the process. They will also coach and train Controls Technicians, leading a team that supports the site in consistently meeting or exceeding safety, quality, environmental, regulatory, financial, and product supply goals.

Requirements

  • 2-year Technical Degree/Certificate (Electrical/Electronic/Controls/Automation) or equivalent experience
  • 5 – 10 years Instrumentation & Electrical, Electronics, and Factory Controls & IT experience, including production system troubleshooting and problem resolution
  • 5 – 10 years experience in a controls function, working in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze and test applications for Factory Control systems
  • Advanced experience with Rockwell 5000 and Siemens Step 7 Controls Systems environments including ControlLogix, CompactLogix, Factory Talk, Step 7, and thin-client technologies
  • Ability to work well with user departments to provide operational support in the use of HMI terminals, including thin client, along with software applications on Control Systems
  • Basic knowledge of databases such as Wonderware automation software
  • Excellent understanding of networks including, but not limited to, Ethernet, Profibus, and ProfiNet
  • Ability to troubleshoot programs residing in Siemens, and/or Rockwell Automation PLC Control Systems in the plant
  • Must have a good understanding of interfacing with PLC's, scales, display devices, and other Instrumentation & Electrical related devices
  • In-depth knowledge of installation, programming, and troubleshooting of VFDs, Servo Drives, and sensors.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading change and situational leadership.
  • Clear ability to relate to and motivate people and effectively train.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • 4-year Technical Degree (Electrical/Electronic/Controls/Automation)
  • 10+ years Instrumentation & Electrical, Electronics, or Factory Controls & IT experience, including production system troubleshooting and problem resolution
  • Server Administration, Virtual Infrastructure Administration, & Database Administration knowledge

Responsibilities

  • Lead small-scale controls projects, including scoping, design, implementation, and documentation.
  • Identify opportunities for automation improvements and implement solutions to enhance system performance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies in all controls-related work.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to support equipment upgrades and modifications.
  • Serve as a mentor and technical resource for Controls Technicians, providing training and guidance to enhance team capabilities.
  • Develop and deliver hands-on training sessions and documentation to improve troubleshooting skills and system knowledge.
  • Assist with onboarding and development of new Controls Technicians to accelerate their technical growth.
  • Serve as the primary technical expert for automation and controls within the assigned area.
  • Troubleshoot and repair PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, industrial networks, and other automation components.
  • Represent maintenance team in the daily FMOS meetings. Provides performance data for selected machines and communicates action plans and completed work effectively.
