Sr Controls Software Engineer

Diamond Foundry•Bay Area, California, CA
•$90,000 - $140,000

About The Position

Diamond Foundry is seeking a software and systems engineer to develop and troubleshoot applications for its manufacturing line. The role works with custom-built and off-the-shelf equipment to improve data collection, operator input, and system efficiency. The engineer collaborates with mechanical, electrical, and process engineers, assists senior engineers, and takes responsibility for engineering projects. The work focuses on improving production-line productivity through better data collection, device programming, workflow automation, and communication with devices using various protocols. It is not a cloud or web development role: the engineer writes production Python code to control equipment and works on the shop floor to wire, test, and physically troubleshoot hardware. The position is based in a manufacturing and engineering environment. It includes designing, upgrading, automating, and troubleshooting equipment and control systems; working with end users on software features; training technicians; and producing technical documentation. The stated salary range is $90,000–$140,000 per year, with eligibility for company shares. Compensation may vary based on duties, experience, and expertise, and higher-level candidates may be considered. Eligible employees may enroll in benefit programs, generally including health insurance, flexible spending accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance, and paid and unpaid time away from work. Employee discounts to VRAI are also offered. Benefits begin as early as the first day of employment, though coverage effective dates vary by benefit.

  • Familiarity with computer vision systems and image processing.
  • Experience with industrial automation environments and understanding of industrial networking protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the automation control team to design, upgrade, automate, and troubleshoot in-house and third-party systems, including inspection tools, CNC lasers, parts handlers, and CVD reactors.
  • Optimize control logic to improve equipment performance and minimize operator interaction time.
  • Collaborate with end users to translate feature requests into actionable software designs.
  • Build algorithms and models to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Train technicians on correct procedures and work with them to implement requested changes.
  • Organize and maintain documentation so others can understand and use it.
  • Write technical documentation for the design and use of equipment.
  • Source system components from software vendors where appropriate.

Benefits

  • Eligible employees may enroll in health insurance, flexible spending accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and programs providing paid and unpaid time away from work.
