The Gasoline Engine Controls Development Engineer develops new features and enhances existing algorithms for production engine controls. The role works with cross-functional teams and uses vehicle, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), dyno, virtual, and rapid-prototyping environments across the V-model software development process to ensure production algorithms are robust and high quality. The engineer interfaces with systems and calibration teams to understand requirements, develop implementation strategies, assess compliance and robustness, support ease of calibration, and document impacts against regulatory requirements. They implement designs and validate them against requirements in virtual and physical environments throughout production. The role also provides technical guidance and training and serves as a subject-matter expert in its area of specialization. Algorithm development may begin as an advanced effort but must ultimately meet program timelines and high-level functional requirements. The engineer develops plans, tracks project progress, presents technical reports to management and project chiefs, and participates in control-strategy decisions to achieve functional objectives.
