About The Position

We are looking for a Senior Claims Advisor, Specialty Lines (FinPro+) who will play an essential role in supporting our growth in specialty insurance. The position may be converted to Claims Advisor depending on the experience of the candidates. Reporting to Specialty Lines Claims, as Senior Claims Advisor – FINPRO+ (Quebec), you will, as a claims adjuster, assist the client in the context of professional liability (E&O) and directors and officers liability (D&O) claims, financial crime and cyber risks. You will analyze the admissibility of the claim, conduct the investigation to determine the potential liability of the insured and/or third parties, assess the damages claimed, and negotiate a settlement, if applicable, while ensuring exceptional customer service to the insured at each step. In conjunction with our lawyers, you will handle litigation files, develop strategies, and consider alternative dispute resolution methods in these files. Work location: Montreal (2020 boul. Robert-Bourassa), Laval (600 rue Lucien-Paiement), St-Hyacinthe (2450 rue Girouard O) or Quebec City (5700 boul. des Galeries).

Requirements

  • Hold a valid 5a license from the AMF.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as an E&O D&O claims adjuster or equivalent experience.
  • Bilingualism (French / English) – Necessity to handle claims files for an English-speaking clientele on a regular basis.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada from the anticipated start date and throughout their employment and are solely responsible for maintaining their work eligibility.

  • DEC in insurance / Bachelor's degree in law (an asset).

Responsibilities

  • Be attentive to the client, clearly explain the claims process, answer their questions, and deliver service that exceeds their expectations.
  • Analyze the client's insurance coverages and clearly explain the protections related to the presented claim.
  • Assess the potential liability of the insured and/or third party, supporting the reasoning with relevant and well-substantiated investigative elements.
  • Assess the reasonableness and admissibility of damages claimed by the insured.
  • Communicate effectively with the client to inform them of developments.
  • Annotate and document their file properly, respecting the company's standards and guidelines.
  • Effectively negotiate claims, when appropriate.
  • Ensure sound management of expenses and external costs.
  • Collaborate actively with various departments such as underwriting, distribution, legal, as well as with brokers.
  • Participate in catastrophe response when it occurs.
  • Attend settlement conferences and trials.
  • Keep knowledge up-to-date and participate in the development of colleagues.
