About The Position

The Senior Claims Examiner – Liability manages complex, high-exposure liability claims from investigation through resolution. The role independently evaluates coverage and liability, sets reserves, oversees claims activity, and works with legal counsel on discovery and litigation strategy. It also includes resolving claims within authority limits, identifying recovery opportunities, preparing reports, participating in claim reviews, and mentoring and training new team members.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Four to eight years of technical claims investigation and settlement experience in Claims or a similar organization.
Ability to work independently while assimilating various technical subjects.
Strong written and oral communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
Advanced interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external clients.
License as required by the applicable state or jurisdiction.

Nice To Haves

Industry designations such as IIA, AIC, AEI, and/or CPCU are preferred.

Responsibilities

Independently interpret policy coverages and determine whether coverage applies to submitted claims, including complex and unusual matters.
Manage all investigative activity on complex claims.
Direct discovery and litigation strategy with legal counsel.
Establish reserves using independent judgment and expertise, and authorize payments within the scope of authority.
Settle claims cost-effectively, promptly, and equitably, ensuring timely disbursements and issuing company drafts within authority limits.
Identify subrogation and third-party recovery potential and follow reclaim procedures.
Analyze claims activities and prepare reports for clients, carriers, and/or management.
Participate in claim reviews.
Partner with supervisors and defense attorneys to prepare cases for litigation.
Mentor and train new team members.
