About The Position

Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a motivated Career Counselor to support graduate students at the Integrated Innovation Institute (III). This role will assist both online and in-person students in the Master of Integrated Innovation for Products & Services (MIIPS) degrees with their career goals. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong attention to detail, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to support diverse student needs. This position reports to the Associate Director of Corporate Outreach and New Engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • 3-5 years of academic counseling experience.
  • A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Successful Background Check.

Nice To Haves

  • Higher education administration or counseling focus is preferred.
  • Familiarity with roles/industries commonly pursued by iii graduate students (design, product, engineering).
  • Higher education experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored career coaching and support to MIIPS students (online and residential) through 1:1 appointments, office hours, workshops, mock interviews, and information sessions.
  • Create and maintain updated resume books for student internships and full-time job searches each semester.
  • Provide updated resumes for employer relations to facilitate tailored outreach to employers.
  • Act as a liaison to disseminate job opportunities to students and gather feedback on employer experiences.
  • Lead tech treks, site visits, and other employer-related student activities.
  • Liaise with key campus departments such as the Office of International Education (OIE) and the Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC) for student needs.
  • Stay informed about hiring and recruiting trends in relevant industries to aid student job search strategies.
  • Develop career resources and materials specifically for MIIPS students.
  • Communicate with students via Slack, email, and other platforms.
  • Present engaging workshops on career development topics like resume building, offer negotiation, job search methods, and networking.
  • Track and report student employment data for internships and first destination outcomes (online and residential MIIPS).
  • Collaborate with the iii Alumni Relations Manager on post-graduation employment locations.
  • Primarily support MIIPS graduate students' career development, with supplemental support for the new EDIE undergraduate program and iii alumni.
  • Prepare career-related reports and provide information to faculty, advisors, and other departments.
  • Maintain student career records, sign CPT/OPT forms, and track the internship approval process for residential MIIPS.
  • Assist with departmental projects and other assigned duties.
