Sr. Capital Formation Associate

Georgian Partners GrowthToronto, ON
Hybrid

About The Position

This role will represent Georgian at the highest levels of LP engagement, supporting the scale of our platform across Growth Funds, Breakout Funds, and SPVs. It is a senior-facing position with significant exposure to Georgian's Founders and leadership team, requiring a high degree of autonomy, judgment, and executive presence. Unlike traditional Capital Formation roles, success at Georgian requires the ability to flex across both fundraising and investment functions. The Capital Formation team owns Investor Relations, the firm’s Strategic Investments program (Breakout Fund, LP co-invest, SPVs), and asset allocation. The team includes a mix of fundraisers, relationship managers, portfolio analysts, investment bankers, and investment professionals who specialize in later-stage or complex investment execution. This position offers meaningful exposure to deal execution and syndication across the Breakout Fund, LP co-invests, and SPVs (alongside core LP relationship management).

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in investment banking, a top-tier placement agent firm, management consulting, or a dedicated investor relations/business development role within private equity.
  • Demonstrate a genuine passion for software and AI trends, with an eagerness to master complex technical concepts quickly.
  • Proactively engage with subject matter experts in the AI Lab to stay ahead of market shifts and firm-wide innovations.
  • Apply a first-principles mindset to evaluate business fundamentals and technical differentiation.
  • Synthesize deep diligence insights to confidently contribute in discussions both internally and to sophisticated LPs.
  • High proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets (financial modeling/metrics) and PowerPoint/Google Slides.
  • Strong technical experience managing and interpreting large data sets, data analysis, data mining, and pattern recognition.
  • Possess the professional polish and confidence required to navigate high-stakes environments and “manage the room” during senior level engagements.
  • Command credibility with institutional executives while maintaining obsessive attention to detail, and the ability to execute complex projects under tight deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, commerce, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • High proficiency using AI productivity tools to streamline workflows and accelerate content development is a significant asset.
  • Experience with HubSpot, Deal Cloud, or similar CRM workflows for pipeline tracking is a nice-to-have asset.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as both primary and secondary relationship manager across the LP base.
  • Own a defined set of relationships directly while supporting the Head of Capital Formation and Georgian’s Founders as a secondary point of contact on their pipeline.
  • Maintain active LP engagement through regular calls, meetings, conferences, and roadshows.
  • Track sentiment and preferences to tailor communications and strengthen long-term partnerships.
  • Act as a key execution partner to the Head of Capital Formation by preparing briefing materials, talking points, and presentations.
  • Step in to represent the Head of Capital Formation where appropriate, and provide strategic input to support fundraising decisions and LP prioritization.
  • Support development and execution of fundraising strategy, including identification and prioritization of new LP prospects.
  • Prepare pipeline reports and status updates for senior leadership, providing visibility into fundraising progress and conversion metrics.
  • Oversee the strategy of core LP communications and partner with various firm stakeholders to drive execution.
  • Help build scalable processes, templates, and playbooks that improve team efficiency and output quality.
  • Delegate, mentor, and oversee work products from junior team members, providing feedback to ensure quality, consistency, and professional development.
  • Coordinate due diligence processes for prospective investors, including DDQ responses, reference calls, and onsite visits, with support from junior Capital Formation resources.
  • Partner with finance, legal, and compliance teams to support LP reporting obligations and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the Strategic Investments team across large follow-on investments derived from our Breakout Fund, LP co-invest opportunities, and SPVs or Continuation Vehicles.
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Investments team on deal materials (investment memos, ad hoc due diligence requests, cap table analysis, company presentations), transaction structuring, diligence coordination, and closing mechanics.
  • Interact with portfolio company management teams on transaction process milestones, syndication, and closing dynamics.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for LP co-invest interest, matching opportunities to investor mandates and managing communication throughout the investment process.
  • Build and maintain relationships with LPs and strategic partners to develop a reliable syndication network for future co-invest opportunities.
