About The Position

At Scotts Miracle-Gro, the culture is energized by constant growth opportunities. This role is for a Sr. Buyer, Capital Procurement, responsible for sourcing across Engineering, construction, and capital budgets with an approximate $130 million scope. The Senior Buyer drives projects at the executive level within Scotts and at the executive level of suppliers.

Requirements

  • BS or BA in Purchasing, Engineering, or other business-related fields.
  • 4–7 years of relevant procurement experience, with a proven track record in complex contract negotiation and comprehensive lifecycle management.
  • Expertise in financial analysis, cost model development, and project management.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven record of implementing new procurement concepts and driving change.
  • Strong computer skills (SAP, Ariba, Google Workspace, and MS Office Suite).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Highly inquisitive nature with a proactive drive to deeply understand project details and a natural inclination to ask insightful, strategic questions.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize projects in a high-pace, collaborative environment.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Develop category strategies, secure customer alignment, and execute.
  • Lead assigned sourcing projects and drive them to successful completion, including market analysis, the RFX process, negotiations, contract creation, and contract management.
  • Serve as a dedicated business partner, providing exceptional customer service to internal stakeholders by understanding their unique project needs and delivering proactive, solution-oriented procurement support.
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives to align with company goals
  • Drive industry analyses: assess micro- and macro-economic factors and conduct financial analyses to identify industry opportunities and create strategies for risk mitigation
  • Identify and gain alignment to pursue new savings/value add opportunities
  • Determine total cost of ownership for products and services procured
  • Adhere to budgetary constraints
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities, cost structure, risks, and partnership potential
  • Demonstrate a bias toward action and ability to work autonomously
  • Travel to jobsites up to 25% of the time.
