About The Position

Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our growing team as a Sr. Business Systems Analyst! Responsible for performing moderately complex, cross functional and cross asset class business and process analysis. Scope of work includes understanding of business analysis techniques needed to effectively and efficiently analyze enterprise-wide systems, extracts and interfaces. Has a good understanding of the interrelationships between systems and processes with those of the overall enterprise and can identify some possible impacts as a result of more complex changes. Uses understanding of enterprise systems relationships to assess process and systems improvements to insure alignment of current needs with desired future direction. Demonstrated understanding of SIM REI’s business and systems domains as well as the industry in which we operate. The Sr Business Analyst will collaborate with Project Managers, Data Analysts, and business users to document requirements, improve processes, and validate system outputs — ensuring SIM delivers high-quality investment data, insights, and service to internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, works closely with SIM REI customers, vendors and intermediaries to provide support, access control and system subject matter expertise.

Requirements

  • College degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • 5–8+ years of Business Analysis experience supporting complex, cross-functional business and technology initiatives.
  • Proven experience gathering, documenting, and managing business requirements, process flows, and system enhancements from discovery through implementation.
  • Strong process improvement and process mapping skills, with the ability to identify inefficiencies, streamline workflows, and drive operational efficiencies.
  • Experience partnering closely with both business users and IT teams, serving as a liaison to translate business needs into technical solutions and priorities.
  • Hands-on experience supporting system upgrades, enhancements, testing, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including development of test plans and acceptance criteria.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess impacts across systems, workflows, and downstream processes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to facilitate meetings, influence decisions, and build strong partnerships across all levels of the organization.
  • High school diploma required.
  • This is a remote role with required travel to the Bellevue office for in-person events a few times per year.
  • Minimum Internet Speed:100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload, in alignment with the FCC's definition of "broadband."
  • Internet Type:Fiber, Cable (e.g., Comcast, Spectrum), or DSL.

  • Experience working with investment management, commercial lending, loan servicing, or financial services platforms preferred, including tools such as Moody’s CreditLens or Precision Loan Management.

Responsibilities

  • Stakeholder identification, selection of business analysis techniques, process that will be used to manage requirements, and how to access the progress of the work.

  • Manage conflicts and collaborates with project team and stakeholders to gain consensus.
  • Develops and maintains traceability of the requirements from planning through post-production phases of projects to ensure quality of delivery.
  • Has a good understanding of reuse standards and can help develop and apply new standards for maintaining analysis artifacts.
  • Creates comprehensive requirements artifacts at the level of details to support development of solution.
  • Facilitates reviews of requirements using formal and informal techniques for large projects.
  • Ability to use the more complex analysis techniques, identified in planning, to accurately flush out requirements.
  • Able to determine when additional information is needed to discover requirements that the stakeholder is not aware of.
  • Accurately documents the requirements so that the stakeholders understand and can review
  • Validates the requirements are what the stakeholders intended in order to meet their needs.
  • Identify business needs, refine and clarify the definition of the needs and validate the solution meets the needs.
  • Problem definition and analysis, business case development, feasibility and definition of the scope.
  • Helps stakeholders identify areas of opportunity and facilitates exploration
  • Has a broad understanding of business functions such as Service and Operations, Sales and Distribution, Compliance etc.
  • Understands organizational culture and uses relationships to influence decisions at project, business and management levels.
  • Has a good understanding of the framework of the company (structure, people, processes and technology.
  • Ability to prioritize requirements based on cost, timelines and business value.
  • Assess a large amount of information and can organize in ways that various stakeholders understand.
  • Leverages models to provide insight into opportunities for improvement.
  • Develops abstract models that describe business domain, in order to elect requirements.
  • Utilizes matrices to organize and show relationships between requirements.
  • Assess proposed solution to determine which solution best fits the business need, identify gaps in solution, and determine necessary workarounds or changes to the solution.
  • Validates the solution meets the business functionality as well as goals.
  • Analyzes the impact to existing workflows, processes and procedures that will occur with the implementation of the solution.
  • Helps the senior analyst define the capabilities and requirements (transition of data, work in progress and training) needed to support the solution.
  • Utilize process modeling tools and techniques in order to identify and breakdown phases of a process in order to create an understanding of the inputs, outputs, and operations that take place during each phase.
  • Assess the results of process analysis, on large projects, to determine potential targets for process improvement through removing waste and increasing efficiency.
  • Create modeling diagrams, for larger projects, that help define the requirements, identify gaps in requirements and workflows.
  • Analyze and document changes and how they impact downstream systems and workflows.
  • Develop acceptance criteria to ensure business needs are met.
  • Facilitate user acceptance testing for large to complex projects.
  • Utilize automation tools to ensure quality and efficiency in testing.
  • Analyze and document test plans, test cases and results.
  • Can provide some basic coaching on systems, processes, business analysis techniques and products to junior business analysts.
  • Ability to customize coaching approach based on the experience and learning style of the other analyst.
