Sr. BKC Release Manager - Data Center GPU

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc•Austin, TX

About The Position

AMD is seeking a BKC Release Manager for its Data Center GPU organization. The role owns end-to-end delivery of complex, system-level hardware and software configurations spanning silicon, firmware, software, validation, and manufacturing. It is a hands-on senior program management position at the intersection of technical depth, execution, and cross-organizational leadership. The manager is accountable for release outcomes consumed by internal teams, manufacturing partners, and external hyperscale customers, without people-management responsibilities. The role oversees Best Known Configuration (BKC) releases from integration and release-candidate planning through validation, sign-off, and delivery. It coordinates release schedules and readiness across firmware, BIOS, drivers, software, validation, and manufacturing; makes decisions on release scope and quality-versus-schedule tradeoffs; and ensures release artifacts are complete, traceable, production-ready, and usable by downstream teams and customers. The position is based in Austin, Texas, and is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in technical program or release management for complex hardware/software systems.
  • Proven ownership of cross-functional, system-level releases spanning multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Strong technical understanding of system integration, including firmware, BIOS, drivers, software, and validation workflows.
  • Good understanding of requirements management, documentation management, and defect management.
  • Demonstrated ability to make and defend difficult scope and priority decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with senior technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, or electrical engineering.
  • Formal project management education and PMP certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in silicon validation, platform bring-up, firmware, or large-scale system integration.
  • Track record of improving release rigor, predictability, and quality through process and tooling.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments with incomplete information.
  • Experience with JIRA, Confluence, and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full lifecycle of BKC releases, from integration and release-candidate planning through validation, sign-off, and final delivery.
  • Drive release cadence, milestones, and readiness checkpoints across firmware, BIOS, drivers, software stack, validation, and manufacturing teams.
  • Ensure release artifacts are complete, traceable, and consumable by downstream users.
  • Make release-scope decisions, including fix inclusion or deferral and quality-versus-schedule tradeoffs.
  • Define and enforce entry and exit criteria, release-readiness standards, and fix-version discipline.
  • Identify systemic risks such as quality gaps, tool limitations, and coverage holes, and drive mitigation with clear recommendations.
  • Lead cross-functional release forums and working sessions involving engineering, program management, validation, and manufacturing.
  • Resolve conflicts across teams by clarifying ownership, driving decisions, and enforcing agreed-upon outcomes.
  • Serve as the single point of accountability when execution issues arise.
  • Ensure BKCs are production-ready and customer-consumable, including release notes, documentation, and delivery mechanisms.
  • Partner with manufacturing teams on production transitions, special SKUs, and sustaining releases.
  • Coordinate release strategy for high-visibility customer programs with strict delivery and quality requirements.
  • Own release plans, schedules, dashboards, status reporting, and executive-level visibility.
  • Improve release processes, tooling, and handoff mechanisms to increase predictability and quality.
  • Communicate release posture, risks, and expectations clearly to stakeholders.
