About The Position

As part of the planning team, the primary responsibilities of the Sr. Aviation Planner will be to manage the airport planning activities ranging from small to large projects addressing airport development, air traffic control, and land use needs. The planner will develop the preparation of master plans and other planning projects, including inventory, demand/capacity analysis, airfield and terminal planning, facility requirements, alternatives analysis, capital improvement programs, and Airport Layout Plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in aviation planning, airport management, engineering, architecture, transportation, or related field.
  • A minimum of 10+ years' experience as an Aviation Planner with strong relationships within the airport community.
  • Experience in the use of AutoCAD as a planning tool, required.
  • Familiarity with NEPA requirements, required.
  • Proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the use of Civil 3D as a planning tool, preferred.
  • Familiarity with GIS, preferred.
  • Experience using Transoft Solutions AviPLAN (PathPlanner and AeroTURN), preferred.
  • Familiarity with Photoshop, desirable.
  • AICP or Professional Engineer licensure, highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the development and preparation of Airport Master Plans, Airport Master Plan Updates, Airport Layout Plan sets, and Airport Property Inventory Maps.
  • Conducts project feasibility studies, develops conceptual plans and layouts, evaluates alternatives, and prepares cost estimates for airport and airline facilities.
  • Writes, prepares, and edits planning documents, plans, and exhibits.
  • Reviews airport and tenant-initiated projects to ensure compatibility with Airport Master Plan and land use policies.
  • Monitors off-airport land use trends; conducts land use studies to optimize development of airport property.
  • Responds to height/hazard and zoning issues and inquiries related to property development.
  • Prepares proposals and makes presentations to clients and prospective clients.
  • Seeks out new clients and projects to pursue and assists with the marketing efforts of these projects.
  • Reviews and evaluates feasibility of short and long-term airport development projects and issues involving land use, terminal, and roadway improvements and capacity; evaluates compatibility of proposed development with FAA guidelines and airport design standards.
  • Coordinates planning studies between airports, the FAA, airlines, and other tenants.
  • Works with consultants conducting short and long-range airport planning studies; develops study design and schedule; supervises and monitors study progress.
  • Assists in the planning phase of some engineering projects.
  • Prepares documents for approving agencies such as FAA and FDOT applications.
  • Develops and manages project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Researches, collects, and analyzes data in preparation and production of technical documentation, graphics and exhibits.
  • Coordinates project requirements with clients, sub-consultants, public agencies, permitting agencies, and other affected parties to achieve project goals and objectives.
  • Edits documents to ensure composition and contextual accuracy, proofreading typed data ensuring proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar usage.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading legal and professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Remains current on industry-related legislation and developments, implementing any changes to policies and notifying team members as necessary.
  • Develops and maintains department policies and procedures, ensuring compliance, and consistent administration.
  • Maintains work results of direct reports through coaching, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Represents firm through conferences, seminars and professional organizations, developing personal contacts in the industry, and effectively communicating firm core services.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by management.
  • Some travel may be anticipated commensurate with skills, development, and client needs.
  • Nights and weekends are generally not required but may occasionally be necessary with little or no advanced notice.
