Sr. AV & Collaboration Solutions Architect

EquinixToronto, ON
$136,000 - $204,000Hybrid

About The Position

The Sr. Staff AV & Collaboration Solutions Architect is an individual contributor role within the Digital Workplace Experience & Design team. This role serves as the enterprise SME on audio and video collaboration technology across a globally distributed estate of 1000+ rooms. The architect defines platform-agnostic AV room standards, owns the remote fleet management architecture, and governs firmware and lifecycle practices across Zoom Rooms, Microsoft Teams Rooms, and Google Meet hardware. Operating within a peer architect model alongside Platform, Workflow, UX, and Governance Architects, this role directs internal operations teams and external AV integrators against those standards while maintaining the technical depth to validate implementations and hold delivery teams accountable. Up to 15% travel required for strategic site visits and platform evaluations.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of enterprise AV engineering experience with a strong focus on globally distributed, large-scale room estates (500+ rooms preferred)
  • Demonstrated expertise across at least two of the three major collaboration platforms — Zoom Rooms, Microsoft Teams Rooms, and Google Meet hardware — with fluency across all three strongly preferred
  • Deep understanding of how collaboration platforms enhance audio and video quality in physical spaces, including codec behavior, AI camera intelligence, echo cancellation, noise suppression, and acoustic interaction with room hardware
  • Proven track record designing and operating a remote-first AV fleet management model, with experience managing multi-site estates where the majority of support is delivered without field presence
  • Experience defining remote monitoring frameworks, health check standards, and escalation paths for large AV estates, including specifying requirements for ITSM integration
  • Strong command of AV signal flow, DSP fundamentals, room acoustic principles, and AV network requirements including VLANs, QoS, and bandwidth planning for AV endpoints
  • Ability to author clear architectural documentation, room standards, and technical runbooks that enable non-AV-specialist teams to operate effectively
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills — able to work as a peer partner with adjacent architects and translate complex AV requirements into executable work for IT and operations teams

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with AV fleet management and device monitoring platforms including Zoom Device Management (ZDM), Microsoft Teams Admin Center, Google Admin Console for Meet hardware, Logitech Sync, or Poly Lens
  • Familiarity with MDM platforms such as Microsoft Intune, Jamf, or Workspace ONE and how AV endpoints can be managed within an enterprise endpoint management framework
  • Working knowledge of automation concepts and API-based integrations sufficient to specify requirements for automation engineering partners
  • Experience with AV-over-IP standards including NDI, AES67, or Dante
  • Relevant industry certifications such as CTS-D (AVIXA), Zoom Rooms Administrator, or Microsoft Teams Rooms Certified Engineer
  • Experience working with or alongside enterprise AV integrators such as AVI-SPL, Diversified, or Whitlock on large-scale global deployments
  • Exposure to workplace analytics platforms for room utilization and AV health reporting

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the organization’s AV platform strategy across Zoom Rooms, Microsoft Teams Rooms, and Google Meet hardware, establishing a platform-agnostic room standard that delivers consistent collaboration quality regardless of underlying technology
  • Develop and own room category standards — from huddle spaces to executive boardrooms — specifying audio, video, display, and control requirements for each category across all platforms
  • Evaluate and recommend AV hardware including cameras, microphones, speakers, displays, and codecs based on platform certification, acoustic performance, remote manageability, and enterprise scalability
  • Serve as the organization’s subject matter expert on how collaboration platforms enhance audio and video quality in physical spaces, including AI-powered camera framing, echo cancellation, noise suppression, and meeting equity features
  • Advise internal Real Estate, Facilities, and IT Infrastructure teams on room acoustics, signal flow, and AV network requirements
  • Design and own the remote management framework for a globally distributed estate of 1000+ AV collaboration spaces, architected for 90%+ remote resolution without field support
  • Define standards for device enrollment, platform registration, health monitoring, firmware governance, and remote diagnostics across all AV endpoint types and platforms
  • Architect the monitoring and observability model — specifying alert thresholds, health check cadences, and escalation paths — and partner with the Digital Intelligent Operations Architect to implement ITSM integration
  • Establish remote troubleshooting playbooks that enable Digital Workplace Operations staff to diagnose and resolve common AV issues without AV-specific expertise
  • Define AV remote management requirements for the Device Engineering team to extend MDM coverage into AV endpoints, specifying enrollment, compliance, and patching standards
  • Own the AV asset inventory and lifecycle framework for the global estate, tracking platform enrollment status, firmware versions, hardware age, support contract expiry, and refresh cycles across all sites
  • Define and enforce firmware and software governance standards, establishing approved versions, patch cadences, and exception management processes across Zoom Rooms, MTR, and Google Meet devices
  • Develop and maintain global AV deployment standards and room build documentation, ensuring new sites and refreshes are executed consistently regardless of integrator or region
  • Manage AV hardware vendor relationships including Logitech, Poly, Yealink, and platform hardware partners to stay ahead of roadmap changes, end-of-life timelines, and certification updates
  • Proactively identify and remediate audio, video, and collaboration quality issues across the estate, establishing quality benchmarks and mechanisms to detect degradation before employees experience it
  • Champion meeting equity — ensuring hybrid meeting experiences deliver parity between in-room and remote participants across all room categories and sites
  • Evaluate and advise on emerging collaboration technologies including AI-powered meeting intelligence, spatial audio, and intelligent camera systems, and provide architectural recommendations for adoption
  • Act as the AV domain authority within the Digital Workplace Experience & Design team, translating AV requirements into clear, actionable specifications for adjacent engineering and operations teams
  • Partner with the Workflow Architect to embed AV health and provisioning workflows into the broader Digital Workplace operational model
  • Collaborate with the Governance Architect to ensure AV standards are documented, versioned, and integrated into the organization’s Digital Workplace governance framework
  • Engage with Real Estate, Facilities, and Global IT Infrastructure on new site builds, office consolidations, and technology refresh programs
