Sr Associate, EH&S Generalist

Carrier•Charlotte, NC
•$64,500 - $129,500

About The Position

An established EH&S professional who administers environmental, health, and safety plans and procedures across multiple specialties, including health and safety, environmental compliance, and regulatory compliance. The role analyzes facility and employee-practice issues to identify opportunities to apply EH&S procedures and improve policy effectiveness. The position maintains and verifies the site's regulatory compliance, owns employer-retained regulatory records and submissions, and ensures deadlines, monitoring, renewals, and inspections are managed proactively. It retains accountability for compliance outcomes when third-party providers deliver EH&S services and reviews contractor work for compliance with site requirements. The role also establishes EH&S ownership across shifts and manages written shift handoffs. It administers programs, develops and delivers required training and communications, interprets requirements for operations personnel, and secures action across teams. It identifies patterns in findings, incidents, and observations and recommends program, procedure, or engineering-control changes. Most working time is spent in production, maintenance, storage, and yard areas while wearing required PPE; regular coordination with off-shift operations is expected.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in manufacturing.
  • Certificate in Nursing or EMT.

Nice To Haves

  • Practical knowledge of Carrier's organization, programs, or systems, with the ability to make enhancements and leverage them in daily work.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a current, evidence-based view of site compliance with applicable EH&S regulations and substantiate compliance to auditors, regulators, or Carrier leadership.
  • Verify compliance through direct observation in operating areas and examination of records; confirm that identified gaps are closed with documented evidence.
  • Investigate non-conformance to root cause, drive corrective action to closure through accountable owners, and escalate stalled closures.
  • Own regulatory records, reports, and submissions that remain the employer's legal responsibility, including incident recordkeeping and determinations and periodic regulatory submissions.
  • Maintain the site's regulatory calendar and plan ahead for submissions, renewals, monitoring, and recurring inspections.
  • Set the scope for externally delivered EH&S services, verify work against standards, and confirm resulting records meet regulatory requirements.
  • Review on-site contractor work for compliance with site EH&S requirements and escalate non-conformance to the contract owner.
  • Identify gaps in retained duties, records custody, or independence created by service-provider arrangements and raise them for resolution.
  • Define and maintain EH&S responsibility across shifts so each applicable requirement has a named owner.

  • Administer EH&S programs and procedures across multiple disciplines.
  • Develop and deliver training and communications required by regulation, adapting them as requirements and operations change.
  • Interpret regulatory requirements for operations leadership, supervisors, and employees, and secure action from people outside the role's reporting line.
