About The Position

This posting is to fill the current vacancy and to establish an eligibility list to fill any future vacancies that may occur in the next 6 months. The position is responsible for providing general legal representation of the Authority and its employees in mediation, arbitration, and litigation in defense of claims (e.g. motor vehicle and train-related claims, slip and fall, trip and fall, and police-related claims including false arrest, excessive force, and other civil rights matters); assisting in the negotiation and settlement of claims prior to litigation; pursuing cost recovery of claims by the Authority against third parties; and rendering legal advice as required.

Requirements

• Must have a graduate degree (LL.B. or J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• A minimum of four (4) years of experience in the practice of law.
• Must be an active member of the Georgia Bar Association.
• Minimum of two (2) years of litigation experience required.

Responsibilities

• Representation in mediation, arbitration and litigation in state and federal courts.
• Representation before federal and state agencies and in public hearings.
• Handles employee and personnel matters.
• Conducts investigations, as assigned.
• Researches and drafts, as required, legal opinions, briefs or memoranda.
• Provides general advice to and representation of the Authority, as necessary.
• Performs other related duties as assigned, including Transit Ambassador assignments.
• Assigns and reviews work of paralegals, interns and/or externs.
