About The Position

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars. The Sr. Litigation Counsel will represent SpaceX in a variety of litigation matters, with a particular focus on state and local matters in Texas, and serve as a connection to the local Rio Grande Valley legal community and judiciary.

Requirements

  • JD from an ABA-accredited law school
  • 7+ years of experience as a practicing attorney, including law firm, in-house, and/or government experience
  • Litigation experience, including trial/arbitration hearing and other “in-court” experience

Nice To Haves

  • First or second chair trial experience, primarily in Texas state and federal courts
  • Graduation from a top tier law school with evidence of strong academic performance
  • Professional experience that includes working as a judicial law clerk or litigation attorney within a highly regarded Texas or nationally recognized law firm and/or with a federal, state, or local government agency
  • Significant experience in at least one of the following areas: construction and real estate litigation, commercial disputes, personal injury, environmental litigation, or other state regulatory matters
  • Prior in-house experience or client relationships with high-growth companies
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and build strong relationships with other business groups and/or clients
  • Proven ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment
  • Strong relationships and stellar reputation within the Rio Grande Valley legal community, including through participation in local professional, community, government, and/or civic organizations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bar membership in Texas

Responsibilities

  • Manage all facets of labor/employment, consumer, contractual, commercial, and other kinds of legal disputes, and third-party discovery
  • Conduct internal investigations; direct litigation strategy; draft and review discovery requests/responses, pleadings, and briefs; participate in hearings and trials; and negotiate settlements
  • Provide feedback from lessons learned through litigation to identify and mitigate legal risks and implement appropriate controls as needed
  • Advise internal commercial and business teams on escalating pre-litigation disputes
  • Deepen the Company’s relationships with local and state-level legal and civic communities
