About The Position

The Sr Advanced Software Engineer will design, develop, integrate, and validate mission-critical embedded software for aerospace applications, supporting Honeywell Aerospace’s next-generation common avionics platform for future cockpit solutions. The role focuses on avionics software engineering, safety and regulatory compliance, and integration across aircraft platforms. The position is based in Phoenix, Arizona, with a hybrid work schedule; relocation is not offered. The engineer will develop embedded applications in C/C++ for deterministic hard real-time operating systems, use Python for scripting and automation, and work with avionics communication protocols and project lifecycle tools. The role also involves requirements engineering and traceability, software assurance and system engineering processes, iterative development, cross-functional collaboration, and technical mentorship.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of experience in embedded software development for avionics or safety-critical systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in C++ and Python.
  • Proficiency with Jira, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Confluence, and IBM Rational DOORS.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or a person with protected status under asylum or refugee status) or have the ability to obtain export authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with DO-178B/C, ARP4754, and safety-critical software development processes.
  • Experience with RTOS environments and avionics communication protocols such as ARINC 429/653, CAN, and RS-232.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement high-quality C/C++ software for avionics systems, with attention to performance, reliability, and functionality.
  • Develop mission-critical software in deterministic hard real-time operating system environments in accordance with safety and reliability requirements.
  • Integrate and test avionics subsystems across aircraft platforms, ensuring interoperability.
  • Use Python for scripting, automation, and system-level integration tasks.
  • Use Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence, and Bamboo for agile development, version control, documentation, and continuous integration/deployment.
  • Implement and validate avionics communication protocols, including ARINC 429, ARINC 653, CAN, RS-232, and switched network protocols.
  • Apply aerospace certification standards and processes, including DO-178B/C and ARP4754, with emphasis on compliance, traceability, and validation.
  • Contribute to software development activities, iterative planning, adaptive execution, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Conduct requirements engineering and traceability using tools such as IBM Rational DOORS.
  • Provide technical mentorship, encourage knowledge sharing, and support team members’ professional development.
