About The Position

Honeywell Aerospace is hiring a Sr Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer for its Growth Turbofan Turbines group. The role joins a multidisciplinary team developing a new family of gas turbine engines designed to be lighter, quieter, more powerful, and capable of operating on 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel. The engineer will work on new product design, analysis, lifing, and testing support for gas turbine components, including new designs, redesigns, and resolutions of field-related issues. The position is based in Phoenix, Arizona, on a hybrid work schedule and reports directly to the Sr Mechanical Design Engineering Manager. The engineer will perform advanced stress analysis and lifing, design and analyze turbine components, apply finite element modeling methods, and contribute to complex axial turbine design and analysis efforts. The role also supports engine and functional tests, certification and root cause corrective action efforts, continuous improvement, and communication of technical results to internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the gas turbine industry.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of and experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Advanced ANSYS knowledge for stress analysis, including creating finite element models from CAD solid models, and skill using CAD software.
  • Experience with crack growth analysis and probabilistic lifing as applied to turbine component design.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB and Python programming.
  • Proficiency using NX, APDL, MATLAB, and DARWIN.
  • Ability to work effectively in a self-directed team environment and deliver customer requirements on time.
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to serve in a variety of roles within a cross-functional team.
  • Dedication to customer satisfaction and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong business and personal relationships with customers and coworkers.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform stress analysis and lifing for low- and high-cycle fatigue, creep, and burst on turbine components, and mentor others in performing similar analyses.
  • Perform mechanical design and analysis on turbine components, including blades, disks, seal plates, and vanes.
  • Participate in implementing Model-Based Systems Engineering processes into the workflow.
  • Implement 2D and 3D finite element modeling techniques using tools such as NX and ANSYS.
  • Execute complex axial turbine-related design and analysis efforts with an integrated team of engineers.
  • Support complex projects involving multiple organizations and internal and external customers.
  • Support engine tests and functional tests for engine certification or root cause corrective action (RCCA) efforts.
  • Support continuous process improvement projects within the organization.
  • Communicate technical results to internal and external customers.

Benefits

  • Employer-subsidized medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage.
  • 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, and health savings accounts.
