Spotter Market Development & Partnerships Intern

Sofar OceanSan Francisco, CA
Onsite

About The Position

As a Spotter Market Development & Partnerships Intern, you will help expand Sofar’s Spotter platform into priority markets by researching target communities, identifying high-potential partner organizations, and supporting outreach and co-marketing initiatives. You’ll report to the product marketing lead and collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, product, and sales to turn research into real partnership opportunities and a repeatable go-to-market playbook. This internship is for Summer 2026, from June 29 to August 21st, requiring a minimum of 8 weeks. International students with CPT work authorization should consult their school before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week. Possible projects include mapping and prioritizing partner ecosystems in coastal resilience and marine protected areas (MPAs), piloting outreach to high-fit organizations, creating partner-ready assets, and packaging the process into a playbook for future vertical expansion. We encourage interns to propose projects they are passionate about.

Requirements

  • Strong research and synthesis skills (turning messy inputs into clear, actionable outputs).
  • Familiarity with ocean/climate, marine science, marine protected areas (MPAs), coastal resilience, or conservation ecosystems.
  • Strong writing skills and comfort communicating with technical/scientific audiences.
  • Self-directed and able to manage work with ambiguity and minimal oversight.
  • Available to work for 10 weeks in San Francisco (in-person).
  • Must be able to work 40 hours per week.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in partnerships, community engagement, or business development.
  • Experience creating marketing assets (one-pagers, case studies, simple visuals).
  • A passion for the ocean.

Responsibilities

  • Research and map organizations, networks, and decision-makers across coastal resilience and MPAs.
  • Build a prioritization framework (audience fit, reach, impact, partnership potential) and apply it consistently.
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of target organizations and outreach status.
  • Draft and iterate outreach messaging tailored to each audience and use case.
  • Support early partnership conversations (prep, notes, follow-ups, and next steps).
  • Create and iterate audience-specific marketing materials to support outreach.
  • Track learnings from outreach and translate them into clear recommendations.
  • Document templates and workflows into a repeatable playbook.
