About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Soccer and consistent with the YMCA mission, the Soccer Program Worker supports the day-to-day operations of YMCA soccer programs by providing a safe, positive, and engaging experience for youth and adult participants. Responsibilities include coaching, officiating, field maintenance, participant supervision, event support, facility operations, transportation, administrative duties, and program support. Additional responsibilities and qualifications apply to Soccer Site Leads, Program Coordinators, Offsite Program/Event Coordinators, and Certified Soccer Referees.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age and currently attending school or be a high school graduate. Employees ages 14–15 must successfully complete the YMCA Young Referee/Coach Program.
  • Must be available to work assigned program hours, including evenings, weekends, and special events, and have dependable transportation.
  • Must obtain and maintain First Aid, Adult CPR, and Infant/Child CPR certifications within 60 days of hire and complete all required YMCA trainings.
  • Employees assigned to referee duties must maintain a current USSF Referee Certification with an active Grade 8 license or higher.
  • Employees assigned to drive YMCA vehicles must be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid driver's license, and meet YMCA driver qualification requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively with children, adults, parents, volunteers, and staff while demonstrating strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, maintain professionalism, and enforce YMCA policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position and complete basic administrative duties, including data entry and recordkeeping.
  • Must be able to complete and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid; able to assist individuals in need until professional help arrives.
  • Ability to quickly identify emergency situations (medical, fire, environmental, etc.) and respond appropriately following established procedures.
  • Required to report all safety incidents and hazards immediately and accurately to supervisors.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment for all staff, members, and participants.
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks related to safety, including assisting individuals of various ages and physical abilities.
  • Follow all YMCA safety protocols, OSHA standards, and state/local regulations as applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in sports, recreation, coaching, officiating, or related activities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the daily operation of YMCA soccer programs serving youth ages 2–17 and adult participants.
  • Foster a safe, welcoming, and positive environment that promotes YMCA values and youth development.
  • Monitor program activities to ensure participant safety and quality program delivery.
  • Plan and conduct soccer practices in accordance with YMCA and program guidelines.
  • Provide age-appropriate instruction that keeps participants active, engaged, and having fun.
  • Promote sportsmanship, skill development, teamwork, and character growth.
  • Officiate soccer matches as assigned, including U8 and younger games and Assistant Referee assignments for U12 and older divisions.
  • Enforce rules fairly and consistently while maintaining a positive experience for players, coaches, and spectators.
  • Certified referees may officiate assigned USSF-sanctioned matches in accordance with certification requirements.
  • Prepare, maintain, and monitor fields and facilities for practices, games, and special events.
  • Perform field maintenance duties including raking, painting lines, filling low spots, and mowing fields when qualified and authorized.
  • Set up, tear down, collect, store, and secure equipment and facilities before and after program activities.
  • Provide excellent customer service to participants, families, volunteers, coaches, and community members.
  • Support concession operations, including sales, inventory management, cleaning, and closing procedures.
  • Assist with community outreach activities, fundraisers, school functions, clinics, promotional events, and other off-site programming opportunities.
  • Perform routine administrative tasks including answering phones, data entry, recordkeeping, and other light office duties.
  • Maintain accurate program information and assist with operational documentation as assigned.
  • Safely transport participants and equipment using YMCA vehicles when authorized and assigned.
  • Operate the YMCA Little Bus only when meeting age, licensing, and YMCA driver qualification requirements.
