About The Position
In a student employee capacity, may perform or assist with specialized business or operational functions that contribute to departmental goals and initiatives. The sports editor is responsible for assigning content, enforcing deadlines and editing staff work for AP style and clarity. The role spans multiple formats, requiring guiding writers and podcasters, assist with weekly print production and drive audience engagement through active social media management.
Requirements
- AP style and grammar knowledge
- Ability to guide writers and podcasters
- Experience with social media management
- Ability to work 20 hours per week
- Availability for Fall/Spring employment
Nice To Haves
- Experience with print production
- Podcast production experience
- Familiarity with sports journalism
Responsibilities
- Assembles weekly sports budget
- Assign stories, photos and multimedia
- Edits sports writer/reporter content for AP style and grammar
- Assists in coverage with at least 4 stories a week
- Enforces goals and deadlines
- Attends daily budget meetings
- Participates in bi-weekly print nights
- Attends weekly staff meetings
- Communicates with and provides feedback to sports podcasters
- Assists in the production of podcasts and provides instructions on how to use equipment
- Attends social media meetings and assists in social media content
