About The Position
In a student employee capacity, the Lariat Photo Editor is responsible for leading the photo staff in providing quality photojournalism for The Lariat. This role involves managing assignments and scheduling for photographers, and ensuring visual content is supplied for the publication. The photo editor will also train the photo staff in technique and software, and must possess a sense of urgency to organize coverage for breaking news.
Requirements
- Demonstrated proficiency in photography
- Demonstrated proficiency in Photoshop/Lightroom
- Strong leadership skills
- Highly organized
- Excel in communications
Nice To Haves
- Experience with audio slideshows
- Experience creating infographics
- Experience writing compelling cutlines
Responsibilities
- Communicates daily with section editors regarding coverage
- Manages photographer schedules
- Ensures all photo and video assignments are completed by deadline
- Photographs daily wild art as well as assignments
- Is responsible for one audio slideshow per semester
- Compiles photo slideshows for Facebook and baylorlariat.com
- Ensures photos from weekend coverage are posted online immediately
- Creates infographics as necessary
- Writes thorough and compelling cutlines for all photos
- Creates weekly low-res slideshow for Waco city channel
- Enforces goals and deadlines
- Exhibit a willingness to take initiative and work independently and collaboratively
- Ability to comply with University policies
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
