About The Position

This is a recreation and parks position that provides coordination and supervision of sports tournaments, and events in addition to assisting divisional staff and leading divisional activities as required. This position assists the manager of the Sports Events & Permit Unit of the Division. This position performs professional level recreation services work, which may include supervision, under general supervision from an administrative or technical superior. Work includes overseeing the safe and efficient operation of activities at school and department recreational facilities, parks and private recreational facilities; or overseeing the operation of programs in specific functional areas under the direction of a recreation supervisor. Assists in analyzing marketing data for program promotion and customer service. Work also includes the supervision of contingent, part-time staff and volunteers; overseeing the approved budget; and preparing information for recreation supervisor for seasonal and fiscal reports. This position requires availability to supervise events in the evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree and one (1) year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Maryland Class C Driver’s License, or equivalent issued by state of residency.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree or two (2) years of college education in the recreation, sports management, physical education or related fields of study with leadership experience in an outdoors setting.
  • Proficient in recent Microsoft Office Suite applications Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP), Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA), or Certified Program Planner (CPP) are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate assigned seasonal programs.
  • Provide direct leadership for tournaments and events.
  • Work with State Sports Tourism and local tourism offices to promote programs.
  • Coordinate with the Board of Education and county facilities for program space; review permits for conflicts.
  • Prepare news releases for upcoming programs.
  • Update seasonal program information on the website.
  • Input programs into seasonal brochures, ensure accuracy in ActiveNet, and create program fliers.
  • Distribute marketing and promotional items.
  • Provide customer service regarding programming questions.
  • Assist contractors and staff with participant information, supplies, and materials.
  • Handle customer requests, inquiries, and concerns for sports and health events.
  • Prepare program evaluations and organize comments and complaints.
  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise part-time program staff.
  • Provide supervision to contingent staff and service contractors.
  • Prepare administrative paperwork for contingent staff.
  • Monitor the status of employee paperwork.
  • Input staff payroll, respond to inquiries, and prepare biweekly payroll reports.
  • Work with divisional recreation coordinators as a team.
  • Assist division staff and lead divisional activities as required.
  • Work daily with Park Operations staff to support sports and health events.
  • Prepare and monitor work orders with Park Operations.
  • Coordinate and monitor park ranger requests; work with Park Rangers daily to support event needs.
  • Assist supervisor with purchasing, warehousing, and delivery of equipment and supplies.
  • Monitor status of contractual arrangements.
  • Proficient in ActiveNet permitting process; serve as backup for field permitting.
  • Responsible for integrating sustainability practices into department operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
