About The Position

Scripps Research & Consumer Insight is seeking a Sports Research Analyst to transform data into compelling narratives that drive business outcomes. This role involves collecting, organizing, and connecting various data sources, employing quantitative methods and creative analysis to generate actionable insights and clear visualizations. The analyst will formulate conclusions and recommendations to empower Scripps Sports in innovation, competitive differentiation, operational efficiency, informed decision-making, and enhanced profitability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in media, communications, marketing, math/statistics, or a related field preferred; or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in TV research, data analytics, or a related role required.
  • Strong interest in and knowledge of sports.
  • Strong data visualization and statistical skills.
  • Able to use logic and analysis to identify and resolve data issues and make data-informed recommendations.
  • Able to write and refine prompts for AI models to produce clear, reliable research output.
  • Comfortable using AI tools to streamline data cleaning, analysis, and visualization to improve speed and accuracy.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Able to work both independently and with a team, bringing strong organization, project management, and attention to detail.
  • Able to handle multiple assignments at once in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Generally, 2-5 years experience in a related field preferred.
  • TV research and media metrics experience preferred, including comScore and Nielsen systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and evaluate metrics, reports, and historical trackers for all Scripps Sports content such as the WNBA, NWSL, NHL, MLV, and other sports properties.
  • Support expansion of Scripps Sports Research & Consumer Insight team.
  • Enable the development of advertising sales pitches with analysis and data driven storytelling.
  • Build dashboards and visualizations to communicate findings to internal & external audiences.
  • Analyze data to distinguish true performance issues from data integrity errors.
  • Perform competitive analysis and provide data-driven input for league acquisition and sales rate card estimates.
  • Define data requirements and work with structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Enter programming schedules into Nielsen NCL.
  • Attend monthly research staff meetings and weekly manager check-ins; contribute analysis ideas and recommendations.
