About The Position

The Sports Referee Level 1 officiates games at a basic level, ensuring fair play and the safety of all participants. The role supports the YMCA’s mission by fostering a positive and encouraging environment for youth sports activities.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Basic knowledge of the sport and ability to enforce its rules.
• Strong communication skills.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with children in a supervised setting.

Responsibilities

• Arrive at games at least 15 minutes before the start time.
• Demonstrate and enforce basic game rules for players and coaches.
• Maintain a safe and enjoyable atmosphere during games.
• Stop play when necessary and explain violations clearly and fairly.
• Build rapport with players, coaches, and parents to foster a supportive community environment.
• Follow YMCA policies, rules, regulations, procedures, and safety protocols.
• Work effectively with varying age groups and manage small to medium-sized groups.
• Attend required staff meetings, training sessions, and other YMCA program activities.
• Work evenings and weekends as needed.
