About The Position

The Referee oversees youth sports games at the Ventura Family YMCA, enforcing rules, sportsmanship, and safety while providing age-appropriate instruction and development to players. The role supports players and coaches, welcomes families to game days, and helps ensure games start on time and run safely. Referees also prepare and clean up the game space, assist with coach recruitment and training, attend season meetings and trainings, respond to emergencies under YMCA policies and procedures, complete incident reports, and provide exceptional customer service that fosters connections with members. Requirements

Must be at least 16 years old.
Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance if over 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent; a valid work permit is required if a minor.
Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire.
Complete all required Branch- and Position-specific training within two weeks of hire.

Nice To Haves

Previous related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Referee youth sports games to enforce rules, sportsmanship, and safety.
Teach age-appropriate basic rules during games and use teaching moments to develop players.
Start all games on time.
Support, encourage, and develop all players in the Y league.
Set up and clean up the game space.
Manage and support coaches while monitoring sportsmanship and coaching styles.
Welcome families, coaches, and players to game days.
Address safety concerns for spectators and players.
Assist with coach recruitment and training.
Attend meetings and trainings during each season.
Respond to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Complete incident reporting.
Provide exceptional customer service and foster connections with members.
