About The Position

The Senior level Sports Officials maintain a broader, deeper understanding of the sport being officiated. This role is responsible for enforcing rules and regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially; analyzing situations and facts quickly and objectively to determine proper course of action to be taken. The official monitors participants and their ability to participate, as well as their attire to properly perform (i.e., shoes, equipment, etc.), if applicable. They provide a safe environment for all participants and enforce all general building policies, if applicable. The role also involves completing necessary reports and forms (i.e., Accident/Incident Reports, Attendance Records, Supply Requests, etc.), preparing program activities, organizing related equipment, and potentially setting up and breaking down materials used for instruction. The official is expected to attend scheduled meetings as required and inform their supervisor of any customer, equipment, or facility needs, ensuring that the goals and objectives of the activity are met. Providing excellent customer service, including interacting with participants to answer questions or resolve problems, is also a key aspect of this position. Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Expertise in the specific sports program rules and interpretations
  • Thorough knowledge of city and department policies
  • Demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job
  • Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially
  • Ability to control large groups of people
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to remain current on rules of specific sports
  • Ability to communicate effectively to the participants
  • Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper course of action to be taken
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision, as necessary
  • Ability to analyze and assess facility, equipment and weather safety hazards
  • Ability to write incident and accident reports, as necessary
  • Ability to learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures
  • Ability to establish and effective working relationships with the public
  • Current CPR/AED certification

Nice To Haves

  • Additional specialty/certifications preferred if available
  • 2 years’ experience working within the sport in an increased level of competitiveness preferred
