About The Position

Under the general direction of the Sports Director and consistent with the Christian mission and the policies and procedures of the YMCA of Catawba Valley, the Sports Official/Field Supervisor is responsible for officiating sports contests and games and helping program participants. The role includes promoting a safe, inclusive environment and serving as a positive role model for players, parents, coaches, and fellow officials. The position requires enforcing rules fairly and consistently in accordance with the YMCA of Catawba Valley sports philosophy, following employee conduct and safety policies, and reporting to work well-groomed and properly dressed. YMCA staff are also responsible for following abuse-prevention policies, promptly reporting concerns or incidents, and maintaining appropriate boundaries with youth and members.

Requirements

Strong understanding and knowledge of the specific sport to be officiated.
Excellent communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

Certifications and/or specific training in the sport to be officiated are preferred.

Responsibilities

Assess playing-field and weather conditions to help ensure player safety.
Meet with coaches before games to clarify any rules variations in effect.
Arrive at least 15 minutes before games begin.
Ensure games start and end at scheduled times.
Serve as a positive role model and enforce rules while demonstrating good sportsmanship and officiating fairly and consistently with the YMCA sports philosophy.
Follow and maintain the employee code of conduct and safety policies and procedures.
Report to work well-groomed and properly dressed.
Help create a safe, inclusive environment by following abuse-prevention policies, promptly reporting concerns or incidents, and maintaining appropriate boundaries with youth and members.
